There are 60 people here but only 26 members. My DSL is broke and I'm on dial up-no wonder it's taking so long for the pages to load.
Why are there so many non-members here? It feels kind of invasive.

It could be people who have just stumbled onto the site, or members who are just checking in quickly without logging in.

People who find PsychCentral can view the community before they become members, if they become members. So that could explain the 60 people.

I don't know if I'm correct but I think that the number means total people using this whole site... up on the very top there is a list of places-- "Home", "Resources", "Disorders", "Quizzes"... etc.. etc... so I believe that it's the total number of people using the whole site--- not just the number of people reading the forum...... at least I think that's how it is... maybe I'm wrong though?? This is strange to me...

I often have to ignore that part that shows number of people-- I tend to get too paranoid so I try to ignore it most times....

Pickle-- This is strange to me... This is strange to me... This is strange to me...

Yup, I have asked this question a couple of times.

I have become quite content with Raynaadi's explanation!

This is strange to me... Good, Mandy, I'm glad it's not just me. I usually see about 10 more people there then members and it usually doesn faze me but there are twice as many non member and that made meeee paranoid.
You really think it's for the whole site?

Its actually an interesting question, if its for the whole site or people viewing the forums. There's a lot to read on the site, and the blogs too.....

DocJohn? Admin? Other mods? Whats the answer? Lol.

Well, that was my understanding.... but I might be wrong about that--- would be nice if one of the admin would clear that up-- This is strange to me... This is strange to me...

is the "number online" the amount of people on the WHOLE site or just on the forums??

yea, my mind can really take off with some doozey of ideas about people watching me or looking for me or judging me.... This is strange to me... Like I said-- that's why I try to ignore that number thing so my mind doesn't go places I don't want it to. This is strange to me... This is strange to me...

Yes, I've been "survailled" online before. Changing my identity for this site, and not seeing it show up on Google and other searches, maybe I have a false sense of security here. I too have noticed the number of anonymous members online. I don't know either if this means they are reading our posts here.
Yes, I'm a bit paranoid!

Oooh, I will watch this thread since I have tried and registered and tried and registered and tried again but still can't view blogs... in other words - I'm not "one of them".

The blogs? Why can't you sign/register in? Did you ask admin. for help? I got a blog, I think, but I don't write in it.

Let me throw another possibility into the mix. I asked Doc John one time about the "anonymous members" and he told me it was "just software"! HUH? Ok... whatever! LOL

Hi Pickle

lol...I am not trying to be invasive. I am a member, but am at work. I come to check and see what all the wonderful people here have to say...but dont always log in. Sorry if you were upset. I think the others are correct though...many of us check in this way...and new people get to look around to see if this is something that would be good for them.
