sometimes i get angry about how i wasted time (life) on stupid things in the past
like in my early 20s when i was obsessed with neopets + spend a good chunk of the day on that. i wish i hadnt... BUT then i realise i was happy back then, obviously i enjoyed what i was doing and didnt think it was a waste of time maybe this is that "living in the moment" thing everyone talks about. the "present". doing whatever you enjoy in the present moment and not caring about what you will think in the future. something like that so whats changed? now i think everything i do is pointless and a waste of time. maybe its not. maybe i should just accept whatever and do whatever i want/enjoy and not care that in a few years time i will wish i hadnt? and maybe i should stop complaining about what i used to do in the past? what do you think of this? |

When people describe living in the moment it is always like you go on a walk in nature and "just take it in". Um... I'm like I'm gonna go for walks forever?
I'm still on Neopets BTW. It's definitely not what it was so I lost interest but it was fun. People just frown upon some types of fun. They rather go for walks to take in nature, walk walk walk. ![]() |

I think the problem is that most of us cannot view the prizes in the future as it needs a lot of mental effort and involves uncertainty, so we stick with the instantaneous pleasures. It is easier.

I think we should leave our past and just go with your present and future but do remember your past mistakes so that you can run perfectly in future

thanks
this is exactly what i thought too, but maybe its just accepting what you are enjoying and enjoy it for what it is at the time, and it doesnt matter if you move on to something else... then you just enjoy that instead? |

If you enjoyed what you did in the past then why look for the negatives? Hold on to those good feelings, leave it at that and put the past to rest.
Dwelling on things you think you did wrong is only going to hinder you further. I know it by experience. Also in my experience, "living in the moment" is for people who can afford the bill. If you can, then enjoy. If you can't... That's what I think, based on what you wrote. Quote:

Or maybe they mean we should do the bad things worse, work for a goal and get rich so we can be mindful after that? LOL, I don't know. I used to feel like I wasted time when I was just slacking at night doing what I like best, watch something really good and interesting like a documentary while eating my evening meal. I used to think that wasn't productive. But if I really liked it, why was it bad? Think about things like working in a factory making money and producing dangerous junk food for example. People would think that was a good thing, because everything you make money from is good. But it's not even neutral, it is destructive to society. So I'm very unsure of what is even good activities. Probably work and make money so you can drive a car that make you so sedentary so you have to pay going to the gym as well. |

lol that last line, so true. i think it is usually all about work/money and what other people see as useful. to me... i think the most useful things i did in the past was when i used to go running every other night. and i hate the fact that i stopped and tbh have no idea why. that seemed to be a good use of my time cos i always felt better after it and i felt better in general...
