I'm a journalist who probably had enough English classes to minor in it, but was too lazy to find out. ;-) Lit classes make you well rounded and the ability to communicate is only going to become more necessary as technology advances. And that means communicating in standard English, not Internet English. Stupid English summer work People who know the difference between its and it's and can punctuate are going to rule the world, and soon.

With any luck, your English class will give you an appreciation for good writing.

I'd be happy to help if I can.

Candy

I feel really stupid.....it was over 40 years ago when I went to see the play "glass menagerie" & read the play, but I can't remember a bit about what went on in it.

I had years of english & writing in college, getting my degree even though it was a technical degree in Computer Science & business accounting. I also did years of technical writing once I had my career as an engineer. Had to write many papers & presentations to the military about the projects I was on.

The best way to start any essay is to list all the items & details you want to hit on & ideas you want to present in your paper. From there, I usually arranges those items into groups of ideas & put those thoughts down. I would write the parts as they came to me & then put the beginning & ending down as I thought of things also.

It takes finding a method that works for you, & gives you a way to put your thoughts together. I found this method works for almost anything I do.....it's just an organizational process. I always kept a piece of paper around me & would write down thoughts as they come to me.

Hope this may help a bit.....I do know how frustrating writing can be. Good luck,
Debbie

It's worth the effort to use good English grammar all the time to make sure you don't insert something grammatically wrong into a graded paper, imo.

I'm sure Candybear can help you. Good wishes!

If it's causing so much stress, maybe you should look into dropping out before it begins. Is that an option?

(Sorry, I know this doesn't help you at the moment but it might be worth looking at.)

Good luck,

Petunia

No, I don't think you're an idiot, but I didn't want to point out your grammatical error and call you on it for all the world to see.

Also, when your in chat do you make sure you are correct on everything you write? I highly doubt it. I'm so tired of being nice to everyone on here and getting treated like crap! I always make sure not to hurt anyone else's feelings why can't you.

go ahead point out all my mistakes of this letter i look forward to it.

I think some folks have tried to help you here with some nice offers and just pointing out some "proper" language.

I don't think anyone was trying to make you feel like an idiot. I know sometimes it's easy to feel that way when a mistake is pointed out, but it was meant in a good way and not to embarass or hurt you.

If we can try to remember to give and receive feedback in a graceful accepting way, we wouldn't feel the need to lash out at each other, knowing that the feedback was meant in good faith and in the line of trying to help.

Keeping an open mind is a wonderful way to learn new things! I wish you well with your class Court_Knee!

I wasn't being rude or airing your faults for all the world to see. I obviously have no idea what someone has learned in "honors" English. Either you wanted help or not, and I'm not sure why anyone feels what I did was wrong. You were asking for help, I did just that. I hope EJ is helping you and not just doing your work for you. I'm sorry you're in a class that you not only don't want, but aren't up to doing. That can really take it's toll. Somewhere along the line I hope you are able to tell the principal about it, and maybe not only make good changes for yourself, but for others who follow. Stupid English summer work

Well, I don't think you are an idiot. I suppose there are differences in the honor's classes, especially for creative writing. Some teachers in creative writing don't care about grammar as it tends to slow the creative processes.

Don't they have "notes" on this stuff any more? Stupid English summer work

Sarcasm noted. Stupid English summer work
