My day didn't go too well yesterday. Actually, it was night that didn't go too well; I slept all day, so I didn't get up until after dark.

Anyway, I cut my finger making a salad. Minor thing, but it stings when I was my hands. I try to do something healthy, and it bites back! LOL!

The thing that really pissed me off is, the mailman delivered a package, and never rang the doorbell or knocked. I'd been awake when the mail came yesterday morning, so I hadn't slept through it. I was in my nightgown, and hadn't slept in about 30 hours--I'd been doing a big download on my computer, and my computer was on my bed, so I made sure I'd gotten all the files I wanted before stopping it (I don't know how to resume with the program; it doesn't seem to work, and I didn't want to have to start all those hours over again)--so I decided to wait to get the mail. Anyway, I found the package when I opened the door. It was dark, so I couldn't see it too well, but when I picked it up (with Ziploc bags on my hands; I put those on when I go to get the mail, because I have OCD and the mailbox is dirty [both literally and in OCD terms]), the cardboard squooshed in, and I realized it was very, very wet. My mom had called me shortly after I'd awakened, and told me it had poured rain, but I'd slept through the rain. When I picked up the package, I remembered her telling me that, and water poured out of it!!!!!! So, I brought the package inside and opened it, and the books were wrapped in unsealed plastic--which happens often when I get books from Amazon (otherwise, they're great)! There was a big split in the plastic, allowing the rain water to get to the books!!! I was really eager to get these books, and now I have to exchange them or whatever. I emailed Amazon, and I'm awaiting their response.

Oh that is so grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr 'ing!!!

It's like getting your daily paper delivered and not being in plastic when it rains.....what the heck good is it then??

Sorry that happened Maven....I think I would call your local post office and complain about the delivery carrier. The least he/she could have done was put it in a plastic bag for you....(the post office does have plastic delivery bags). How frustrating for you! Mini-Rant - Damaged Package

Oh, that is extremely irritating!! I am glad that you are taking it up with Amazon - they should be held responsible for their poor packaging! And then, sabby's suggestion about tackling the post office is also good.

Let us know how it turns out.

Maven that would %#@&#! me off too.
I hope that the folks at Amazon are reasonable, and send you new copies of the books that the rain damaged.

<font color="#000088">That's got to be really frustrating. I can see why your so mad about it. I mean it takes so long for you to wait for your package to arrive in the first place. Then your really looking forward to getting what you ordered. And then when it comes, this happens! I can understand you're anger in this situation, I'd be pretty pissed to.
But I think you did the right thing by contacting Amazon, about replacing the damaged books, after all, they were not secured properly for weather damage, with the plastic being torn. So they should take responsibility for that. But if they haven't returned your e-mail soon, I'd keep at it. And I agree about the Postal Service taking some responsibility for it, being that the package itself was damaged on the outside as well. They do have plastic protective bags for rainy days, or they could have rang your door bell, or knocked! I'm sorry this has happened to your books, and I hope you are able to get them replaced with new ones soon, and don't have to wait too long!Mini-Rant - Damaged Package Mini-Rant - Damaged Package Mini-Rant - Damaged Package

Here's an update...

I'm happy to say, Amazon was most helpful, apologizing and immediately placing a re-order for me. I just have to send the damaged books back, or I'll be charged for the new ones if not done within 30 days. No problem--I have to wait for my bf to get back (Monday) to take them to the post office, but also to print out the label Amazon requires.

Here's the funny thing: When I ordered the books originally, I went with the free shipping option, and that option tells you that books will generally arrive in about 5-9 days, whereas standard shipping is about 3-5 days. Many times that I've gone with the free shipping, though, I've gotten my package in the same amount of time as standard shipping. When I ordered these books, I got them in two days!!! However, Amazon is sending my new copies via standard shipping (no charge to me), and they haven't been shipped yet! So, it's going to take longer! Isn't that weird? As long as I get it in a reasonable time, I'm not complaining, but I guess I am a little bit, because I think it should have been sent just as fast as before, and while they can't control the entire shipping process, I want them to come as fast as before! LOL!

I didn't even think to contact the post office over this--DUH! You're right, they're supposed to put plastic over items when it rains. I mean, even just the doormat would have been fine. Our previous mailman at the apartment did.

Overall, I've had a lot of good service with Amazon, and very few problems. One thing, though, that's bothering me is, they sell magazines that advertise cockfighting, and the Humane Society is going after them for it. I hate that they sell these magazines, but I also support their right to free speech...but what I want to know is, is it legal? There are laws against promoting cockfighting, but I don't know if they'd apply to Amazon selling a third party's magazines.
