Spent an hour in the basement. We had tornado warnings here . Powerlines are down in town too. They spotted rotation 4 miles from here. Seems to all be going south now.. I hope!! Too damn scarey.. I sat on the basement floor on a comforter with a pillow up against the washer for my back and Heidi was in between my legs shivvering from fright. The winds got fierce. I think KD might be getting hit next down south of me. We still have tornado watch out till 4am.. but I think its almost past us. Seems to be now anyways. Lets hope!!

Hi there Beth,
I can definitely feel for you....I know that scarry feeling of being in the basement as the whole world is blowing past & not being able to see what is going on around you.

It is amazing how these stroms can just blow through so quickly.....here one minute & past the next....but that is just how quickly tornados hit also.

My first experience with tornado watches was when I was 5 years old....a Californian in Kansas (tornado alley). What is the world are the sirens for.....they were only tested once a month in California for during the cold war with Russia....& these were going off in the evening & middle of the night. First time we heard them, my Grams was picking my Gramps from work, so my Mom & I were in the apartment alone with dinner cooking. One of the apartment staff came to our door to let us know that the siren meant tornado watch & we had to go to the basement with him. Next time the sirens went off was in the middle of the night...looked out the window & everything was blowing past. That was scarry for a 5 year old for sure....thought I was in the middle of a tornado.

My grandparents were in Topeka in 1964 when a huge tornado went through the city. They were in the basement of their own house at the time, but could look out & see the huge tornado coming at their house.....then it turned & went all the way across the city. Funny thing is that the tornado came into the city right over Burnets mound where the Indians had burried the bones of their people killed by a tornado....to protect the city from ever getting hit by a tornado again. Those bones didn't do much good at all.

When I was just in Ky, I heard the sirens go off there. Thought at first they were just testing, but it was a bad weather day, so decided it must have really been a weather watch warning. I was out doing an errand, so headed home immediately. That is when the shelter of a nice basement really does look good.

Take care & send the rain down to Ky, but you can send the tornados away completely....we don't need those either.

Take care of that trembling little Heidi....poor baby.....thunder & all is very scarry for our babies. I had forgotten what that kind of weather was like before now, so I can definitely feel for you,
Debbie

<font color="#000088">I'm sorry you had to go through such a scary experience, and your little Heidi to! I've never been in a Tornado myself, but I've seen the aftermath of one, and it wasn't pretty! So I can sympathize with you for your fear! I'm glad you 2 are okay!
I hope you both stay okay, and things stay calm there for you!Tornado watches/ warnings Tornado watches/ warnings Tornado watches/ warnings
