I normally dont do this....but I need everyone to think about a certain resident for me ...whether its pray or even just think about her or send your hugs.......She is 53 years old, 65 pounds and has down syndrome, her family told us she has the mental capacity of a two year old.....She is the sweetest thing next candy....but she is in severe pain....according to what Ive heard, it is remarkable that she is still alive ...last night i stayed by her side when I could...since obiviously i have other residents...and she kept crying for her mommy....i just hope she finds peace and no pain...
thank you

If she is in severe pain then odds are that her doctors are not taking adequate care of her. Is Hospice involved? Their nurses are great helping with pain relief. If this isn't a Hospice situation, there should be pain specialist at your nearest hospital. Ugh. I hate hearing about people in pain. It's such a helpless feeling, eh?

I'm so very sorry she is in pain.

Poor little thing. One of my residents I am sending prayers. Is there any way she could go to hospice so she won't be in pain?

Hugs,

Jan

That poor lady. I hate to hear of her awful situation. Certainly, I will say a prayer for her.

You are an angel to do the type of work that you do.

actually she is on comfort care (also known as Hospice) however since I am not a nurse I dont know exactly what they are doing in the med department...i do know they have stuff to ease the pain....but it doesnt seem to ease her despair...i tell her she isnt alone and that we are here for her...but in her mind she wants her mommy because she doesnt feel good....however according to what i have heard her parents are past now....it seems nights really bother her....sometimes she cries out during the day but evening really scares her...i try to get her to smile and sometimes she does and she seems to really like her hair smoothed ....i have the day off tommrow and as much as i need it my heart kinda breaks because i dont want her to be alone....i dont know if everyone else is going to run to her cries....perhaps i have gotten to attached but i dont care....strip my license from me...never let me work in the med field again....but how can you not care for such helpless human in pain....thank you for your thoughts and support I really appreciate it and i know she does...

You are a good person to sit with her and care for her. Sometimes just sitting with them helps with the pain.
Everyonce in awhile you get attached to someone while carring for them.Just means your human.
I will pray her pain gets less. Know you have done a good thing for her, But take care of yourself too.

She definitely has my prayers. It is so sad when they the comfort care hasn't found what is needed for the comfort part. It is so wonderful that she has you to care & be there to support her.

It is important also to care for yourself. I know when we feel that much compassion for someone, it is hard to leave their side & we hurt when they hurt. It is important to care for yourself too.

(((((((((hugs & prayers)))))))))),

thanks everyone!!!! It seems your prayers are working!!! I overheard that they are thinking of taking her off hospice!!! And yesterday they gave her thicker food...which is great. And she actually said two words...granted they were get out...but she was having a rough time....but she is doing so much better...now she just has a ton of pain after eating...which thats personally why i think she is in pain....i mean she is 65 pounds and eating 100 percent of food...personally i think we should have done it gradually ...but im not a nurse ..so i have no say....but thanks you guys!! Keep up the prayers they are working !!!

InACorner, that is wonderful news! I used to work for an ambulance service and transported many patients betweeen hospitals and nursing homes. I remember one young woman (in her 40s). I believe it was some sort of auto accident that made her unable to speak or walk. She was also dealing with an infection in her lungs, so I had to wear a mask and gown while caring for her. We took her from the hospital back to her nursing home. I remember meeting her husband who has stood by her though all this. What a wonderful human being. So many would just say 'heck with it!'
