I just got back from driving 4+ hours to deliver Henry, Golden pup, to the rep from Golden Retriever Rescue. She is an angel! Her life is rescuing, training and raising Goldens. She is going to keep Henry for a few days at her home with her dogs and then take her to the prison to be paired with an inmate. She has promised to keep me posted as to Henry's progress.
After giving Henry a bath last night, I almost called her to say I couldn't part with her. We cuddled on the sofa with her damp fur and lots of loving kisses. Today, my pets are all wandering around looking for Henry and her goofiness. But this dog is so special...so smart and needs the time and training which I lack. I think she will excel and be in a better situation.

Thanks! It was harder than I thought it would be to give Henry up. The house is so quiet! But tonight I'm going to give my old dog, Kelley a bath. She has been neglected a lot since I had Henry. She's getting old, and she has had to take a back seat to Henry, even when it comes to food. When I got home, I put a bowl of food out for her, and she kept hesitating to go to the bowl, because Henry was such a pig! She kept looking around reluctantly before finally getting to eat.
About my other pets...the cats and the one dog, I know I can keep them even if I move. Kelley (dog) would be fine even in a small condo courtyard, and the cats seem better all the time staying inside.
Love to all of you,
Patty

(((seeker))) What a wonderful heart you have. I know how sad it was to give up Henry. I know that sadness is why so few people become puppy raisers for service dogs, as they can't bear the thought of the pain of giving a pet up. You are one special person in my book! Patty,

That has to be the hardest thing is to give up one of your children & I know for me, my doggies are my children. The best part of this is that you know Henry is going on to do wonderful work & fulfill potential that not many doggies get a chance to do.

I can relate to giving up a puppy. When I was having problems with the neighbors complaining about the # of dogs we have, the animal shelter told us to cut back. The breeder of one of my babies was able to take him back. I wasn't ok with that at all. Missing him so much & he was going back to a place where the husband is a real jerk that can be mean to dogs on top of that. He was a new husband to her, so wasn't there when she was doing the eskie breeding so he really didn't appreciate the eskies.

When my dog first got there, the husband hated him. At the same time, I moved my horses from the ranch so I wasn't around there to see everything that was going on....(part of why I left cause I couldn't stand to watch). Well 2 years later, the husband & eskie finally bonded & they are finally best buds. I am back at that ranch now with my horses for some training before moving to KY. The eskie came running up to me & jumping up with huge kisses & he was doing that cute little growling thing that some of my eskies do with me. The breeder said he never does that for anyone else & she was thinking that he was saying...that's my mom....I own her so keep away. It is amazing how after 2 years, he still knows me as who I am.

I'm sure when you go back to see Henry at any point, you will find the same thing. It's an awsome feeling knowing you are remembered by your baby.

Take care of your lonelyness....let your other baby fill the void as much as possible.....like you said, at least they are getting more attention time.

Debbie

Thanks all of you!
My pets all were looking for Henry this morning! She dominated the household with her goofiness and play. I just looked up the prison pet training in Ohio and some inmates had written letters about their dogs and what loving relationships they had/have with them. I think Henry will do well, but i do miss her.
Love,
Patty

Hi Seeker-I had a Golden Retriever and I know how lovable but hard work they can be! I really admire what you've done here ,it was such a brave and thoughtful step to take.

Yes, Impala...I had never had a dog quite like Henry...her brown eyes following my every movement...so smart and affectionate! I truly lacked the time and knowledge to train her properly.

Goldens can be very special, you are correct. I am sure that she will find her way to a home where she will be a constant companion and get the chance to use her brains and guardianship. It was wise of you to notice Henry's potential and sacrifice your comfort for her good -- and the good of the person who needs this special kind of animal.

I can only begin to imagine how difficult of a decision this must have been for you. Go ahead and cry, feel your loss. Goldens are sooooo truely special and I know you must miss her dearly. Henry delivered to Golden Retriever Rescue today She'll be well taken care of. The inmate who'll train her, needs her and will love her and give her all the attention she needs. And then she'll find a permanent happy home. Henry delivered to Golden Retriever Rescue today

<font color="#000088">That must have been really hard to give him up! But you did the best thing for him, and a really good thing for someone else in need of him in the future! I know you'll miss him dearly, and I'm sure he'll miss you to! But atleast you know he's safe, and he will be safe from now on!
I just had a bad experience trying to put my dog up for adoption, and it ended up putting both our lives in danger!
I was sent a fraudulent check for his adoption fee, and his shipping fee, and because I would not cash it, and fall for their scam! They called me and threatened me, that if I didn't, and then send them $2,000.00 by today, that my life would be in danger! I turned over everything to the police, including the check, and their investigating it! Then deleted the add on petfinder.com that I had placed for him!
I couldn't imagine what would have happened to my pet, if they would have got the money and the pet, when all they really wanted was the money!
So, what I'm really trying to point out is that what you did, was the best thing to insure the safety of your pet. Even though it was very hard for you.
Atleast you know he is in a safe place, and will be cared for properly!
