Im pretty sure I have borderline personality disorder. I was originally trying to find out about an unrelated symptom, one that I now think is my just my own slight twist. The thing is I dont want to walk into the doctors &start reeling off all the symptoms of bpd i have (i forget stuff so i want to take notes) because im worried the doc will think ive just convinced myself i have it. I have just broken up with my live-in partner & my temper tantrums, suicidal thoughts &self harm fixation are getting worse.

The reason im so worried is that I live in the UK and i would have to rely on nhs for my treatment, and everytime ive been to the doctor before (granted not with this insight, half of the stuff I just thought was me, I was just a bad and weak person. So I also thought I was simply depressed. Ive asked for a therapist before but they just have me drugs.. Which never took unless it was to overdose on them so I could trip a little..

Hi deedee85 and welcome to PC.

I'm sorry you are feeling so badly right now. Trying to self diagnose is not always a good thing. Any tests you may take online or any information you look up should only be used as a guide...not as a diagnosis. Please don't label yourself without having a work up done by a licensed mental health provider.

It sounds to me like you really should be seeing someone and very soon. They can help you with therapy and/or meds if needed. Please....be good to yourself and make a call to get evaluated. You deserve to help yourself and to feel better. You can write down what your issues are and during the evaluation you will be asked questions. They will go over everything and make a diagnosis.

I wish you well deedee and hope you feel better soon. Keep posting here and I'm sure there will be a lot of support coming your way. Best of luck to you!

Hugsss

Thanks, you are absolutly right of course. The other stuff I have goin on has nothing to with bpd (including the one thing that I came here in the first place for), and I am self aware enough to realise ignoring them to give myself a label could be detrimental.. I just thought that bpd fitted me, I can say yes to all of the symptoms, from a moderate to high level, and would explain alot. I am goin to my gp (i will now stick to symptoms not assumption tho!) And I hope I can get some help. Thank you again What do I do?

if your gp doesnt help please keep at it deedee. i know the health system in general in the UK sucks, never mind as it relates to mental health issues but if you keep pushing you can get the help you need. it may be a hard fight but you are worth it. you should not and do not have to spend your life in pain.
i wish you the best of luck. keep insisting on getting the support you need!

Well my doc does think I need psychotherapist (an referred me! *faint*) but he doesnt know if theyl take me, as i binge drink, and send me to an addictions consuller instead. But as you know they cant prescribe th drugs i need or really treat th disorder at all, just the alcohol problem, which sucks cuz if th disorder is treated i imagine the alcohol problem wud disappear What do I do? oh and my primary problem is apparently probably ocd so I was well off!

good luck deedee. follow all possible routes at the moment. seeing a psychotherapist is not something to really be afraid of. it can be terrifying but they are really there to help.
as i said before, keep at it and remember that you are worth the fight. if you feel you are not getting the right help keep pushing until you do get something that can help.
take care,
biiv
