Yesterday my parents called and asked for some help. I had given them a television set a while back and it had been struck by lightning, so until it was replaced, they asked me to move another tv into their den. I have moved this same television from one room to the other several times by just picking it up and carrying it, but yesterday, it didn't go so well. I picked it up and realized that I had made a big mistake when I felt a knife like pain in my lower back. Needless to say, I had to put it back down in a hurry. After I managed to get it moved, I came home, took some pain medication and spent the night in bed. Today at work was a nightmare, and I'm up now because I couldn't sleep with the pain. I have come to the conclusion that I can't do the same things I could 20 years ago. Well, I can, but not without suffering through the repercussions. On the bright side, the insurance company is replacing the tv, and they'll get a flat screen lcd that will be a whole lot easier for me to lug around when they need it. Ever had a specific event that reminded you that you're not 20 anymore?

Oh noooooooooooo ((((((((((((((( Crisis ))))))))))))))))))

Pulled muscles in the back are a horrid thing. I'm so sorry you are hurting.

To answer your question.....Definitely YES!!! Simple things like going up and down stairs and just plain walking sometimes remind me that I'm not spring chicken anymore. Playing with my grandson....throwing the frisbee around....I end up aching the next couple of days.....good grief!! LOL

Heat and cold on the muscles.....anti inflammatories if you can take them....a bit of rest.....and be careful!

Hope you are feeling better soon!

What gets me the most about "getting old" is that I have to sleep on a regular basis. What happened to staying out to 3 AM and then making it to work on time the next morning, just to do it all over again the next day. If I tried that now, it would kill me.

I hope your back gets better...

((((((((( crisis )))))))))

I hope you feel better!

What a good thread...well, for me right now. Have you ever decided "I'm not as young as I once was"?

A HUGE in my face is the birth of my new grandchild and a second one on the way. Have you ever decided "I'm not as young as I once was"?

Another thing is, like you, the pain when doing what I used to do.

For instance, my oldest and her hubby just bought a new house. I went over and scrubbed the bathroom floor to ceiling then did windows. That was a month ago and my shoulder still hasn't healed. Have you ever decided "I'm not as young as I once was"? The pain can be tremendous and I know I should go to the dr. Hubby said I messed up the rotator cuff. From what I read, it feels like it. Have you ever decided "I'm not as young as I once was"?

I'm hoping time will heal it.

Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone in my pains and thoughts on it.

KD

Yes, anytime I get sick now it's not as simple as it use to be. In one's 20's and 30's easier to just take things in stride, not even think about them. One little thing that amuses me in having changed is how in my 20's I'd take off on horrendous snow days and try to drive to work, taking great pride in being one of the few to get in and now I'm not that "stupid" and don't risk my life :-) The chances of wrecking a car (nevermind getting hurt) isn't worth what one gets paid for a day at work.

Good question.. Well, I am painting, I guess you would call it a "family room". Painting the ceiling did me in. My back hurts. My shoulders hurts. My neck even hurts. OOO not to forget to mention climbing the step ladder. At first I thought, ooo good exercise for the legs. Well, I tried to go upstairs last night and my legs said no.. They did not want to climb the steps.. My body aches in places that I didn't know a body could ache... Sooooo, looks like I am not 20 anymore.. what a let down for this middle aged ole woman..

I had planned on painting the bedroom and bath. After careful consideration, I decided that the cream color they now are painted looks just beautiful. Why paint it!
Have you ever decided "I'm not as young as I once was"?

Ooo I did have a big fight with the paint. One of those days when the paint had a mind of its own you might say. Going everywhere but where it was supost to go.... And would you believe the paint won......

RF...I moved into this little house last summer and began painting, and fell off the step ladder and really injured myself! I had to call a friend to borrow a walker!
No, it is not as easy as when we were young!

lol... Thank ALL of you for your responses, they honestly did make me laugh. Unfortunately, sigh... I had to see a doctor this morning. Luckily for me, the company I work for contracted a doctor, and a physical therapist to stay on site 3 days out of the week. The unfortunate part is, the Doc is betting on a herniated disc. However, he can't be sure until an MRI is done, so it's just his "best guess" after having me answer questions and do some moving around. He just said from the exercises and my description, it's symptomatic of a herniated disc. In the meantime, he has me on muscle relaxers and anti-inflammatory medication. If I'm no better in 7 days, we'll do the MRI. We'll see how it goes.

I find trying to find the right distance to hold something so I can read it is really funny! LOL.

I was putting on eyeliner and pulled my eyelid to the side to make a nice, thin line.

It's still there. It hasn't bounced back yet. That was a few months ago. Have you ever decided "I'm not as young as I once was"?

When I have to crawl over the center console in my car I realize I'm not as young as I once was. My car is dying a slow death and sometimes the drivers side door doesn't open so I have to crawl over to the passenger side and get out. I don't recommend doing this in a skirt LOL. I am looking forward to getting a different car.

Several weeks ago I was playing with a wonderful 4 year old friend and jumped with both feet off a structure we were playing with. I landed on both feet and went down to my right wrist to catch myself and fell, broke my wrist and left the kid wondering why I fell, silly me. I had been feeling well. having a ball with him.

Have you ever tried to recall something from memory that you've seen and realized that "squinting" at it in your memory or "moving it" closer, etc. can make it easier to read? That cracked me up when I caught myself trying to read a book's author when I could see the book cover in my mind's eye.

My mind has always been young (and always will), but I see my body slowly digressing the other way...mainly my back (from being too Supermanish) and my joints ache occasionally...but mentally, I am fine, except I forget stuff once in a great while and I have to work with that Clyde guy...other than that, I am in pretty decent shape.

ICE ICE ICE! 15 minutes on and at least 15 minutes off... be very gentle and maybe you won't have permanent issues with your back. (((((gentle hug))))

but 20? hmmm that was so long ago... lol However, my life became "old" at age 34 when I was injured and disabled. Yeah, that was a rude awakening.

tc! and feel better.
