Ebay items bought recently, in the UK by me

Item number: 260165702653
Item number: 260167526167
Item number: 320168409110
Item number: 280151035363

I am buying gold rings that at some time ment something to someone, broken dreams if you will, not for there monetary value, does that make me a predator?

They mean nothing to me other than scrap; does that make me a collector of broken dreams or aspirations or just a future collector? The line is so blurred that there is no definition, am I collecting dreams or the pain that comes with rejection to justify my own?

I mean logically not one of the rings I bought will ever fit any of my fingers so I am unlikely to wear them and the thought of giving then to someone else repulses me...

thoughts and opinions please

Doesn't make you a predator; people aren't being "tricked" into selling you their rings; they're selling their rings and you're buying them. Why you buy them doesn't even sound like "voyeur" (their broken dreams) to me because you can't know why they are selling them or what their "story" is about them truly and are "making up" your own the way you want it which you should be!

You want my high school ring :-) It doesn't fit me anymore and I'll tell you more stories related to it than you could possibly want if you like :-)

I have metal dermatitis so can't wear most jewelry and have gained enough weight so that most, if not all (including my wedding band) rings don't fit. But I can see buying rings I "like" just to have! Kind of a neat "collection" if you ask me.

how much does it it weigh, in grams. what carat is it, does it have semi precious jewels in it, and what does it mean to you? then what would you take for it in a bidding situation? dependant on scrap carat gold weight, what would you take for it?

you see i dont want the rings has a "trophy" i want to make my own, thats why i buy then imbuded with precious stones, diamonds, rubies, saphires, jade ect, to make some thing for myself from the combined material for when i do find some one, if ever

my wedding rings were both made from welsh gold that i panned myself, took me 6 months daily to get the required amount of gold, 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, , i am trying to curcumvent this this time by having the material available before hand, pm me if you want to sell your high school ring, dependant on carat i will pay you full scrap value price .

The high school ring thing was a joke, I'd give it to you anyway, not sell it. It has no "value" is the typical Thompson ring from the 1960's, not real jewel, only 14k, etc. cost only $60-$70 originally I think.

That's fascinating you made your own wedding rings! I have a 24k gold ring that was my grandmothers but I wouldn't sell anything like that as I am sentimental :-) I'm the Repository Aunt for my nieces and nephews too; no children of my own and last girl in all lines so I got all the inherited stuff.

How about Sterling? I have the family silverware that would melt down nicely :-) and last you the rest of your life there's so much of it. Eventually I'm going to find one of the places that buys it online and sell it but I'm not sure the pattern so will have to take pictures and mail it to them, etc. and count it all (and there are 12+ settings with 10-12 pieces each -- I have butter knives and grapefruit spoons, it's ridiculous). I'm trying to decide if I should "save" a setting or two for a niece/nephew and/or whether I should split the profits from any sale with my brothers (who don't care one hoot about it) or not. Assuming I have 75-100 pieces @ $5-$10 each, could be a chunk of change (and I have some serving pieces still too I think). Makes me tired thinking about it all.

take the sterling to be apraised, add it to your home insurance, silver is worth nothing at the moment scrap price wise about $10 per troy ounce scrap, sets maybe a bit more, i sold all mine when the arse fell out out of the market about 2 years ago.

if you get desperate call me on the gold ring, will probably cost me more for postage to the uk

oh by the way the gold i made my wedding rings from was welsh gold, the same stuff that princess diana's ring was made from, rareer than a three testisicalled prized bullock, never got it back by the way, and i panned the lot myself with a frying pan, grease, and a sh.it load of hard work, bitter me? no, not me...

Mellors,
I have bought and sold gold rings on Ebay..many of them.
Go for it, I say!
I have been a longtime seller on Ebay with 100% positive feedback, selling my "artrox," which is also my user name there, and I've never had a bad selling experience. All the people there have been great buying my art.
My daughter had bad experiences selling her twin's baby clothes...to a lot of kooks and post-partum nuts. She doesn't go there much anymore as a result.
One just has to find the right niche.

I was looking at some of the things you listed you bought. That last seller was a pill wasn't he? Makes me angry when they retaliate like that.

Wish I had some gold to sell you :-) it's nicer selling things to people you "know." I'll have to look, see what I have just hanging around and see if I can get around to photographing it. Don't worry about any postage. I'm not likely to get desperate anytime soon (I hope :-) but it must take you ages to buy enough stuff to melt down sometimes?

a normal ring that i buy weighs about 1.1 to 1.3 grams, 31.1 grams are needed for a troy ounce, so call it 30 rings to make the weight, then factor in the diamonds, rubies, emeralds, saphires and other precious gems that come with the cheap gold, thats where the money is, the gems, crazy, me? you must be mistaken lol

in the words of a a blackadder player " i have a cunning plan" if all else fails i will still have 30+ precious stone encrusted rings to sell without breaking them down, gold has doubled in price in the last 2 years, natural gems never devalue

Hi Mellors,
I collect gems. We should get your gold and my gems together!

Do you have any rubies you want to sell? I'm looking for the blood red color, which is hard to find. I do have a 14k gold mens ring I could send you, but I want to take the diamond out first. let me know if you're interested.
Okie
