Where there is a market, there is a provider. I don't look at it any more "sick' or such than say, those who are Goth. What people wear is reflective of who they think they are, or who they wish to be. Razors have more than one purpose.

I am sorry you were triggered by your thoughts about razors. None of the sites I shop at have anything of the sort. I hope you can pull back and repair your triggered self and feel better. ((((safe hug)))))

That would really trigger me too. Honestly - I don't get who buys that stuff, guess it's for the shock value. Hope you're feeling safer today.

I don't know where you are shopping, but none of the online shopping places I go to have anything of the sort.

I know that you are probably shopping in an area where your are used to shopping & know that that must be a horrible trigger.....I understand triggers in other ways dealing with elderly abuse & ID theft issues.

Sometimes we have to change the things we are doing to protect ourselves from those triggers....even if that means shoping in a different place or maybe making some huge changes in our life style to protect ourselves from those triggers that will continue to be there in that area. Unfortunately, markets exist & that isn't something we can control because of others. The only thing we can change is us.....sometimes that means taking ourselves out of those surroundings.

I hope you can take some time out & calm yourself down & do some things that will help you escape from those triggered thoughts. Then take your life on a different path that won't take you back to those triggers.

((((((gentle hugz))))))),

Control, no. But expressing an opinion or a reaction to some of those things, to those who make them or sell them might actually have an effect.

I am with you on this one Gabriel. It is a sad state of our society that has made cutting into a fad. It is sad that there is actually a market for those items. I would boycott the manufaturer as well.

It's old/"everywhere". Kate Moss was seen wearing a "bloody" one (but the reporter was saying it was too magenta to be real blood) and I saw black ones, ones with hearts in the center, etc. There were 66,100 hits on Amazon for "razorblade necklace."

Poor taste but then, I think many piercings are too.

I'm sorry you were triggered.

Before I proceed, I will tell you that I do understand SI very well because I have been doing it for a long time.

However, I can't say that the razorblade necklace necessarily means "cutting is cool." I don't know that is why the manufacturer made it. The reasons someone chooses to wear it-- well that is a different thing. But I don't fault the manufacturer for that.

A razor blade is a thing. The person determines its use. I also know that when I was 18 and really into being gothic I wore a lot of stupid things that I wasn't trying to make any direct statment with except that "I can be goth and wear scary looking things." I even got a really stupid tattoo to go along with my really stupid accessories, which has since been completely removed by laser treatments.

I'm sorry that necklace upset you. really upset

I think it's like a few have said..... razorblades can mean many different things. My mother in-law thinks of them as a tool in which to do her "scratch" art. She makes beautiful pictures with a razorblade. She would probably think it odd to receive such a necklace but I'm sure she would only connect it to art.

Perhaps the razorblade necklace IS supposed to signify something specific... but..... it can be up to the person looking at it to decide how they perceive it- though I do understand it's difficult to steer away from upsetting feelings.

again, I'm very sorry it upset you and I hope you can do some good self-care for comfort. really upset

I could not agree with you more Gabriel! That is absolutely sick! I do not understand the meaning behind it, if there is one. And I do consider those people different then those who self mutilate, but I do not get that either and think it is sick. But some do it as an art form! OKAYYYY, whatever, I dont think beauty is in the eye of the beholder fits with that do you?

thanks everyone..(((hugs)))

i calmed down.. i guess im getting used to these idiots. ive seen razorblade Tshirts etc as well.

i am NOT into "cutting is cool" culture dont get me wrong. i dont follow any particular stereotype or subculture. i dress how i dress because i like it. i think "fitting in" with a subculture for the sake of being "different" or an "individual" defeats the purpose because, no youre not an individual. you're just following a not-as-popular fashion.

anyway point is i like alot of black etc. so yeah while unfortunately there are people out there who give every person in black a bad name, i dont want to let them turn me off, do you know what i mean?

ive seen way sicker too, some of you might not believe the kind of stuff thats out there, but its only razorblades in particular that trigger me. im even fine with blood personally.

i dont know why. maybe its something more to do with blood being something thats in all of us and razorblades, to me, representing self destruction, which i am all too familiar with.

either way i dont think it really takes a genious in my age group ( who have grown up with it a bit more perhaps ) to figure out what a razorblade is representing on these people when so many of them give a stereotyped bad name to the rest of us..

Why do you think a manufacturer would make such a thing? Just to have a chuckle? Or to make money? Out of something frightening? Do you think that shows a healthy frame of mind?

Trying not to aim this at you, but to suggest what might be underlying facts, not to hide them.

The manufacturer made it because people will by it. It is that simple. Like I have said, and like others have said before and after me, razor blades can be used for lots of other reasons. It's all about how the buyer interprets it. Also, some people just wear stuff and they have no idea what they are doing-- they are just going for a certain look. Like I said, I used to buy tons of stuff that I wore just to look a certain way. I used to have a couple of necklaces that had skulls on them-- was I obsessed with death? No. I just wanted to look a certain way at that age.

some people wear it coz its "cool" or, like pink said, to get a certain look.

others are very much more aware of what they're doing and do it for the "scary " thing. its not scary..its sick.

Sorry you were triggered and upset. Glad to hear your feeling better. I often wear black jeans and I have had people make bad comments to me about it. However, little do they know I wear blue jeans too, and why?? Because jeans wear well and survive many washings and last for many years. And I am comfortable in them. I tend to get irrated by people who spent their lives insulting others to make themselves feel good.
Very happy to hear you are more relaxed about it now.
