We've had our dog, Pepper, for about a year now. We got him when he was only a few weeks old. He's not a bad dog, and he's really smart. BUT... he has this problem where he likes to PEE on my pillows.
I have to keep my bedroom door closed at all times, or he will pee on my pillows! I have no idea why he does this. The vet said he might just be marking his territory, but geesh, I wish he'd do it somewhere else! Has anyone else ever heard of a dog doing this... or anything similar? If so, what was done about it? How do I make him stop doing this? ANY advice is appreciated... I'm tired of having a dog tinkle on my pillows! ![]() Thanks!

My dog used to snack on the legs of our kitchen chairs. My dad tried Tabasco sauce, which she turned out to like, of course! LOL
But it goes along with the idea of finding something he doesn't like. Maybe call a vet and ask for ideas? I dunno. Good luck! :-) |

Try spraying bitter apple (available in stores) on your pillows. If that doesn't work, talk to a personal dog trainer. The dog needs to learn that the pillows are not his.

First of all...is your dog neutered???
If not, getting him neutered may stop this behavior. If he is already neutered....well...the bitter apple thing is good for chewing issues, not so sure about territory marking issues...but it may help ![]() Maybe you can buy new pillows for your bed and give him one of your old pillows that he has already marked? Possibly he will go for the old pillow and leave the new ones alone. Interesting issue though.....never heard of this particular one before....sheesh. ![]() sabby |

There is a spray that you can buy that is Doggie No and other names. it is a repellant, You could try spraying it near your door to bedroom. But, dog needs to be fixed asap if not. The other thing I thought is that he is pissed off with you for leaving. I have had dogs pee on my bed, it's a pain in the neck and they need to learn it quickly. Mine did grow out of it. I have to say neutering is very necessary with this issue.

It sounds like a dominance issue. I agree that he should be fixed (this is why I never get male dogs). My friend brings her male over that’s been fixed since he was 6 months old and he lifts his leg on everything. The sprays work, but only for a couple of days. I think that your best bet is to train him that he’s not allowed in your room at all. Put up a baby gate in front of the door to prevent him from getting in.
If he's trainable, it should be enough to let him know he's not welcome in there. We had a wonderful Rott that all we had to do was put up a piece of cardboard and she knew that she wasn't allowed in that room. My female Yorkie has peed on my bed when she's mad at me. She'll wait till I'm walking in the room and pee right in front of me. Which is good so that it only goes as far as the mattress pad before the bedding is ripped off the bed. Have you brought a new pet in the house or changed your routine? A well exercised dog is less likely to misbehave, he might be mad at you or just bored.

Thanks, y'all! I'll have to try some of this stuff. I'm willing to try just about anything to make him stop! I'm so frustrated with the whole situation. I like the dog and all.. but I can't stand him peeing on my bed!
Thanks again, everybody! Jenn

I had a coworker with two cats and one started peeing on the bed when let in (she had to keep it closed all day too but if she let the cat in and so much as took her eye off it it would pee on the bed) and the vet told her it was a dominance thing like AAAAA says which is the same as territory marking in a male dog.

Oh I can so relate to you right now......I have allowed 4 of my doggies up into the house with me & everytime I turn around, one of them my male has peed on something....my bed, my blanked, a wall, another wall, a leg of a table, a chair......I am so sick of cleaning up dog pee, I end up screaming at them. I make sure I let them out for potty walks every 2 hours, so they don't have anything to pee....but he still finds something left in him to pee on. I need gates across the enterances to every room...I keep all the doors closed, but he finds something. The females are much nicer....when they have to go between potty walks, they at least pee on the training pads I have on the floor.
I about lost it this morning.....when I was trying to get some Christmas things finally picked up to put away......things were peed on.....I about threw him out of the house permanently.....he really knew I was mad.....but that was probably when he came upstairs & peed on something else. I wish I had the answer....because the potty walking thing is usually the best solution...but when that doesn't work??????????????????? Debbie

I've never heard of that product Pita, is it something that you purchased on the internet or at a pet store?

You can get it on the internet but I bought it at Petsmart. Sometimes they only have the one for cats and I think it is different for cats so check and make sure it is for dogs. I also tried the one for cats and it worked as well. It was not perfect but it sure cut the problem way, way down.
