So, I moved to AZ from MN about 7 months ago... the people I work with think it's funny the way I say out, about, bag, and other words... When I think about it I say them "normally" when I don't I say them Minnesotan like OOOT, ABOOT.

Well if that wasn't enough, we were reading today.. and I came along roman numerals, I only remember learning up to ten. Anyhow... it was XVII(17) and some other one... and I had to say the letters individually. I felt sooo dumb!

i was born in chicago and lived there for 12 years of my life before moving and where i live now people laugh when i say pop instead of soda or tennis shoes instead of sneakers. They say i say roof like ruff and root as rut and i tend to put a's in a lot of things such as the word "no" i will say "noA" or the color green "gareen" so yeah lol

My dad moved to MN from WA over 30 years ago... and he said that people would bug him about the way he said certain words especially roof and Italian! Oh and I just CANNOT bring myself to say SODA... it's so much easier to say Pop!

Don't be embarrassed how you pronounce things and call people on their making fun; they're just jealous because they've been stuck the same place all their lives a little embarassed...

Hi SpazKatt-
Don't worry about it. Most people in AZ are transplants from somewhere else anyway. I was born in AZ and grew up in Florida and am back in AZ so end up with Southern pronouncations and slang (y' all) if I am not careful - then I get laughed at.

Almost everyone here has some kind of accent -they just pretend thhey don't. I have a friend who has lived here 30 years but was born and raised in England and she swears she has no accent (she is wrong).

I'm born and bred in Canada but everyone asks me where my accent is from and swears that I sound American. I usually just laugh and blame it on the speach pathologist I had when I was little, I had trouble learning to talk, in part due to a misformed pallet and so I got special tutoring in how to talk for a bout 3 years when I was in elementary school.

I love people with accents. We just watched Fargo. I adore that accent. My dad had a true Baltimore accent. I was hoping to hear it when we visited there, but I don't know if it exists anymore. a little embarassed...
