Why can't I sleep? I go thru these phases where I can't sleep for days. Why can't my mind just shut up and let me sleep?

{{{{{KJ}}}}}

you're getting that mind circling thing ? where you can't shut it down ?
the only thing we have found that helps with this is relaxation & meditation techniques. If all else fails self-hypnosis sometimes works. Get your therapist to teach you how to do this.

Gosh how I hate when this happens....so frustrating!

I have taught myself a bit of self relaxation that almost always works....and that's saying goodnight to every part of my body.

Start off with laying prone in bed...legs straight, arms straight by your side. Close your eyes and start at your toes....saying good night. toes, it's time to relax and go to sleep. Then to your feet, ankles, calves, knees, thigh, etc etc, working your way up to your head. Tell each part it's time to relax and go to sleep.

As you progress, you will feel those parts begin to get relaxed and feel a bit heavy. Most times when I have to use this, I never make it to my head..I usually fall asleep somewhere around my middle...LOL.

It may take a couple of nights worth of practice, but it really does help. And occasionally, I've had to go through it a second time to work. So don't be discouraged if it doesn't work right off Insomnia thread

Wishing you happy dreams!

God, I have been going through the same problem for MONTHS! But absolutely nothing at the moment is working for me, apart from if I try and force myself out of bed extra extra early so I'm tired more earlier, maybe that'd help lol

I too have days when I don't sleep. My problem is that I have so many things I'm trying to get finished & I get involved in something that I need to do....then all of a sudden, it's 7am & the sun is coming up. Then I want to get what I started finished because if I leave it unfinished, it will never get done & I stay up longer & longer.....then I get into something else that needs accomplished on my list & the same things happens the next night. I go like this until I completely crash. The same thing happens with eating also...when I get so involved in doing things, I don't even think about eating.....these stressful times are very unhealthy because I loose bunches of weight.

I have always been like this even when I was a kid & finishing school projects. I would work until I got it finished than I would crash for days. Did the same thing in my engineering career. When a project had a dead line, I would work continually until I got it finished, then I was dead when the "dead line" hit.

Guess I'm always afraid I won't finish what needs to get finished. I just can't relax until I feel that I have successfully finished the job otherwise. Sometimes I just end up crashing before if the task takes too long or I have so many things going on all at the same time....then it takes me forever to get back to finish what I was working on.

Don't know if that's exactly insomnia or not....but I sure don't sleep much right now.....when I finally get some sleep, I'm out for at least 1 day.

I can definitely feel for you,
Debbie
