hi everyone...
I am not feeling well.. so will keep this kinda brief.. (also.. not thinking so well.. either..) so sorry.. My young adult son... is very upset.. because his truck was broken into late last night.. he is on-call goes in.. and from there.. uses their work truck.. so.. in it was about 2000 dollars worth of stuff... and his checks.. and grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.... his 401K?? info.. with Social Security info on it... so though his truck is nice.. he kepts PLPD on it.. so the stuff.. is not covered.. unless under homeowners..the broken window.. the dents to the door... and yes... I know.. a good lesson for him... and no.. sometimes.. adult "children".. do not listen to Moms.. I am very..... very.... concerned about the Social Security#.. what steps.. can be taken... now.. and later??? to make sure no identiy theft???? and.. do you think that since it happened on company property.. with exclusive parking lot for employees.. and an on-call situation.. the business insurance would "kick" in at all???? Thanks fot any help.. and yes.. I know.. lesson learned for him... but right now.. I just want to do anything I can.. to help protect his future... and really... I am not well...sorry.. to be blunt.. |

one thing besides the police report is to notify all the credit burea people. call all credit card people too. the credit burea can put an alert on his file. I know I spelled that wrong errrr

Hi Freewill,
That really sucks. I can't help with the insurance questions, but I can help the identity stuff. Make sure he reports this to the police, and mentions that his social security number was compromised. Then he needs to contact every credit bureau there is, not sure what they are in the US but I'm sure his bank could tell him. He needs to get in touch with their fraud divisions, they'll have one, and have a note added to his credit file that his social security number was stolen, and he is to be contacted directly should any new credit be applied for in his name. In Canada, that stays on your file for 7 years. Then when any credit issuers applies for a credit check, you get a phone call saying that credit has been applied for in your name, and is it really you. At that point it's up to him to contact the credit issuer and say that he did not apply for the product. I was a victim of identity theft last summer, and have run into several cases of people trying to get credit under my name, SIN. I've also signed up for a credit monitoring service which basically lets me know every time my credit file is queried or a new account is openned.- so I can proactively see anything that isn't mine. The service I use covers Equifax and Transunion, both of which I think have US operations. Hope he get's everything sorted out. \ splitimage Basically this means that |

I know when my truck was broken into in Albuquerque on my drive back to California last Thanksgiving.....everything I had that was stolen was covered under my homeowners policy. I had to get all the receipt information on the things.....sadly, my flute was in the bag that was stolen & that was worth $6000.....I had a rider on my homeower policy that only covered 1/2 because I hadn't had the appraisal updated since 1985....that was a huge loss.....but the jewelry & the rest of the things that were in the bag that was stolen was also covered with a $1000 deductible....I was surprised how everything added up as I thought through & added up all the receipts....way over $2000 on the rest of the stuff...of course, most of that value was jewelry....but lol.....then evey covered the 5 lbs of dogfood that was stolen.
The window on my truck was covered immediately....they came out to the motel & fixed it in the lot as I was on a trip & couldn't leave my window in that condition. The worst part was the ID information they stole from me....that came from the motel clerk that checked me in.....I went through a horrible time with that as I was on the road & was getting calls about the credit usage....so I had to stop everything & close every account possible.....then as soon as I got back to California, I took care of filing everything with the credit bureaus. It is such a horrible feeling when your property is attacked like that....you privacy it completely invaded & trust destroyed. It impacts your life beyond what anyone can imagine.... I am sorry your son went through this, Debbie
