Note to self: Next time you go swimming all afternoon: WEAR THE SUNSCREEN
I'm about as red as a Lobster ![]() At least it's not sun poisoning though (got that once as a kid for the same thing, how much does my poor skin have to go through before I learn? lol) |

I'm really bad about not remembering the sunblock, I hope your sunburn heals soon.

I remember being young and carefree
![]() We had our beach chairs on the edge of the water, it was an overcast day for about 6 hours...Went home, changed into my cotton Wendys uniform, thought I was fine because it was overcast right??? Wrong, pain...lots of pain...layered with a heavy uniform..Ouch... Now, I'm older and a tiny bit wiser. Only stay outside for small periods at a time with Sunscreen slathered all over me. Feel better soon!

Just wanted to remind people that sunscreen not only protects you from the hurt of a sunburn, but could potentially save your life.
Melanoma is a very deadly form of skin cancer and having watched someone I dearly loved die from it, I recommend everyone use sunscreen daily ![]() But about your sunburn, I have heard too that aloe is very comforting. Take care of yourself and remember your sunscreen next time! ![]() |

sorry - sounds awful. Sunburns are no fun. Up here you can get a spray at the pharmacy for after sun exposure - I think it's called apres Sun (not 100% sure on the name.) I think it has aloe in it, and it's really good and soothing.
Plain old Noxema works well too. Remembered from when I was a kid. --splitimage |

i burn bad in about 20 minutes. best thing i have found is hawian tropic cucumber melon in an aloe base. very soothing and no oil. anything with an oily base will feel good when you put it on but it holds the heat in and will make it take longer to heal and can actually make it worse in the long run.
lost edited to add, if it ever happens again, as soon as you get out of the sun take a shower as hot as you can stand. it will hurt when you do it, but makes it go away faster.

I know what you mean.....I walk outside to give my doggies a potty walk & get sidetracked doing weeding without thinking about the sunburn I am getting......I am very fair skinned & always layed in the sun when I was a kid to try I get a tan. Luckily nothing happened .
When I was working, I thought that a tanning salon would be a good thing as then I would already have a start on a tan & wouldn't burn when I got in the sun.....WRONG. Not only that, but I got a sore on the corner of my lip & went to a dermatologist.......it wasn't skin cancer but he said it could have turned into it had I not taken care of it early. I got sun poisoning also once when i was snow skiing. It was a warm spring day & I didn't bother wearing a cap as it was too hot......the top of my head got burnt...& my face got so swollen, my eyes were swollen shut......when I went to work after that weekend....everyone thought I had gotten beaten up......so all I could say was you should have seen the other guy. Skin cancer isn't anything to play around with either.....I don't know if that was the start of the cancer my Mother died from, but she had a skin cancer removed from her abdomin many years earlier. When she was 79, she was diagnosed with vulvar cancer.....it was squamous cell cancer....a type of skin cancer......seems as though a stray cell that wasn't removed years earlier....one never knows about cancer cells & how they travel through the body. It is much better to be safe than sorry.....beyond just the pain of the sunburn. Debbie

awww..Kaika..that stinks!!
I hope it feels better..aloe vera, asprin, noxema or a cold shower helps with the stinging. I'm so increadibly pale I burn really easy and I forget sunscreen all the time..I got burned in D.C. and I have a slight sunburn from work. What I started doing was if I knew I was going out in the sun I put the sunscreen in my bag and that way when I opened it I would rember. Or I just set a reminder on my cellphone. I hope you feel better!! |

This sounds like it will burn but it helps: take a compress of white vinegar to the burnt areas, it draws the burn out. it works but hurts like hell.
just my two cents

It's not that bad, it itches like crazy but I know if I scratch it'll REALLY hurt. The only parts that really har are just a few places that are really tender like the sides of my arms and my shoulder area in general. It was funny though when I took a shower today how the water felt alot colder on the burned parts because the skin is hotter.
