Ouch, we got socked pretty good up here in New England last night and this morning. I had to shovel just to get to the Sunday paper. It's 2 to 3 feet, with very gusty, heavy winds and snow drifts all over the place!!

I'd love it if I knew I didn't have to go out and spend a good part of the day shoveling it.

Ah well. At least we have power, which I'm sure many communities don't this morning...

Up until last year, I used to think how great it was to live in Florida and not have to deal with snow. I'm from Jersey, so I know what a blizzard is like. Here in Tampa, we were fortunate compared to areas just south and east of us which got leveled by last year's hurricanes but we still had two of them pass through here as a category 1 in a span of less than two weeks. In the 20 years I've been here, I've never seen anything that even came close to this. All the non stop fear and anxiety those storms cause is unreal. At the time, I remember thinking I'd give anything to be shoveling snow instead.

We got snow here all day in Northeast Ohio. I've seen worse though. Of course, since I live in the snow belt which gets a lot of lake effect snow...winter snow is my friend. The snow is up to my front porch...so I'd say over 12 inches. It's about 6 degrees(F) here...with a windchill of -7(F). It's COLD....lol Brrr!

No shoveling for me. Luckily, my cousin is kind enough to plow our driveway with the tractor. Woohoo! Blizzard of '05!

Stay warm everyone!

We got it, too, Doc. Heard a couple days ago talking to someone from out there that it was coming your way. It is beautiful, but I really hate driving in it since my tires are worn down. It's easy for my car to just sit there spinning and not going anywhere. I'll have to save up one of my paychecks so I can get a bit more tracking, LOL. Anyway, I hope you and Mrs. DocJohn can go out and play later. It would be great it we could have a snowball fight, but I'm not sure I can throw one quite all the way from Chicago to Boston.

I think this is DocJohn's way of inviting all the poster's in the Boston area (who own a shovel) over to his house for a hot chocolate party! It's kinda like Tom Sawyer painting that fence..... Blizzard of '05!

We know you TOO well Doc!

emmy
(who finished her shoveling in wind chill -12.....I'm counting my fingers and toes now to be sure I still have them all.
Huh, toes = 11, is that right???)

Geeze, I don't feel so bad, we only got a foot. Blizzard of '05! But the drifts are insane. I had to stand in snow covering my THIGHS (I'm 5'4") to brush off my car yesterday morning! And there was a ton of ice on it too.

When it slowed down and the streets were merely horrible, an improvement from putrid, I went to the grocery store. Grocery store parking lot was not very well plowed, so it was tough to get the cart to the car! I felt really bad for the poor kids who had to collect a bunch to bring in.

Anyway, with my back bumper covered in snow and ice, and some junk on my trunk too, I went to unlock the trunk .... ooomph .... HOORAY! My key bent! Still opens the trunk, still opens the door, won't turn in the ignition. I had to call a friend to come rescue me and take me home so I could get my spare key.

I tell you what -- I'm from Missouri, and every year about this time, I seriously consider going back there. Blizzard of '05! Summers are absolutely brutal, but so are Wisconsin winters! I think it'd be a fair trade.

Hope everyone has dug out by now and is relaxing with a good book and some hot chocolate.

Candy

Shovelling was hard work - did it 3 times yesterday, and each time, it seemed like it had more snow then before, and I'm uh, petite too. That darn wind - blew the snow into my face every time I chucked it onto the side of the driveway. Blizzard of '05!

It was also cold too - with the windchill of -32F during the day. Because of the cold, the pipes in our church burst, causing an icy flood - what a mess. Blizzard of '05!

Doc, I hope it was warmer there, despite the snow. Hmmm. How about hiring some kids to do the shovelling? They'll be glad to earn a few bucks. Blizzard of '05!

i'm in arizona so i can't relate to shoveling. was in a blizzard once in nebraska. it came early so leave hadn't fallen off yet, and tree branches were falling on houses and cars. we warmed up water for instant coffee with tea candles. mom and i thought it was fun, but we didn't have to do it every winter.

please thaw out and stay warm docjohn.....we need you.

it's simply beautiful with a turtle neck warmer, ski goggles, hat over ALL of head, long underwear, pants, snow pants, big boots, two turtle necks, wool sweater and a winter coat. Got the cars cleaned off and as I was finishing our plow guy came and made the driveway look splenderific. Took youngest through drifts and white outs to a friends and she decides she needs the hat and scarf I am wearing because hers is too itchy. Okay, I am a good mom. So when I got out at the drug store I couldn't see a thing between my hair blowing and the white in my eyes. Ahhh, warm wool bed.

Heh heh well you'll not get any sympathy from me LOL

Here in Nova Scotia we're being hit with our third major storm of the year. High winds, lots of snow... the usual... at least my power hasn't gone out this time.

Ah well, I guess that's a small price to pay, this is a nice place to be :-)

AWWW... I feel sorry for you guys. It's 6 pm and it's 61F. We've had about 3 or 4 days of incredibly beautiful sunny days. Hubby and I went for a ride along the beach in his little sports car and the top down. Ahhhh... Blizzard of '05! Blizzard of '05!

My boyfriend was driving his snowmobile around all weekend instead of his car just because it was easier. It has been a long time since I have seen this much snow fall. It took literally 10 minutes when it first started before the roads were covered...scary
