I was reading pegasus' thread about this being the most supportive site ever. And i totally agree. But I wonder - what is it about this site, that makes it so great? Is it the people, the rules, the people who run it, the moderators, DocJohn, the content.. what?

What do YOU think makes PC, PC?

The love, the people, the caring, the understanding, the safety and the fact that we can be ourselves and not get ridiculed!

Psych Central lives up to it's name. (((DocJohn)))

This is the place to come whether you are a professional seeking links or reviews on topics and research, or a seeker of self-improvement in mental health. Whether a care-giver or a care-needer, or both, one can find the support they need here. In fact, it's often the link "google" brings up when searching anything regarding (contemporary) psychology.

While no one really loves rules, it IS because the rules here are designed to keep members safe, and feeling safe from personal intrusion and attacks, that makes this the best support site in the internet. The community team generally help the member who breaks a guideline understand, while not invalidating their distress that probably caused the infraction.

The site is as professional as one can get and still cater to the general psychologically ailing populus.

Just my POV.

it IS a community people care about each other and look out for each other and offer advice from their experience - I have learned so much here and the rules are the most flexible I have seen - on other sites you cant mention any other website but theirs - here you can recommend anything you think will help - I think that shows how open Doc John was/is when setting up this site thank you Doc John

I am so happy I have found it and you guys .. and gals of course!!! I honestly dont know what I would have done without you all

The people and community and range of point of view, all focused toward a single subject. One doesn't have to worry too much about being judged as we're all here together with similar worries and feeling like we may have similar backgrounds and experiences. It makes it a little easier to open up as we assume things about each other that would take awhile to learn face-to-face.

The people who care make this place so divine to come 'home' to... as well as the most understanding staff I have ever seen in action.

I'm so thankful for PC, as it sets the bar high!!!

We are lucky people to have found a place here... this I feel is true inside my heart.

PC forever!!!!

I think it is the community....

To me, this community includes my peers....the people here are wonderfully supportive, not to mention everyone brings with them their own experiences and backgrounds which I think assists in the broad range of support that is offered here.

The community also includes the Mods/Admin....they work really hard to keep PC safe for us all. I agree with some other posters that no one really likes rules that much, but these rules offer structure...and how many times have we all noticed in our lives that when there is a lack of structure, our lives seem more unbalanced, unstable, and chaotic, yet when that structure returns, our lives tend to balance out more.

I think the format of the site is great and helps keep everyone organized....again, structure!!

I just think that PC altogether is what makes PC great!!

I think what makes Psych Central great is that it has many options. Conssumers can come here to find information about medications and books, one can click on the Research button for all kinds of information even for school, dang theres even a place on here where people can ask the professionals questions, not to mention the friends I have made here in the chat rooms and on the boards, of people who share some of the same things we have in common.

While the rules create a safe place - they also free up subjects like mental illness that "normal" people find hard to handle. At least most people in the real world that I know, don't usually feel very comfortable about this. I've learned not to talk about depression with most people - I've had to control my own boundries even when I've wanted to talk about my issue with depression, just to be polite. One really sees how uncomfortable some people are with this.

Here at PC I can ask a question about a taboo subject irl and get a few answers by others who deal with that issue every day. Without getting that "we don't discuss things like that here" look.

I can offer support to others when I think I have something to offer. I can ask for support when I don't know an answer.

Feeling understood and listened to, having something in common with someone else. Community.

Thank you PC
