Decided to take people's advice on the forum and made an appointment to get Zeppelin neutered tomorrow. Somewhat nervous, because I know that all operations have some risk to them. Looking forward to a more calm dog though!

good for you! & him! while it is surgery it is very routine...& they say "oh he will be mellow for a few days"...don't count on it!..boys don't usually carry on & have as much pain as the girls do.

it does take a few weeks for the hormones to level off..so don't expect an immediate change in behavior...& there will be some swelling back there that might make you think they forgot to remove some items but rest assured it will go down & he will have some empty pockets.

good for you for being a responsible pet owner!!! you are doing a good job.

it's hard leaving them at the vet's for any operation (i know i just left my guy -the one on my pix- for a tumor removal on monday) but everything should go smoothly.

the benefits far outweigh the reasons for not doing it. you want him around for ever & this is one way to help that along..trust me you don't want a dog with prostate or testicular cancer...

i'll think good thoughts for you! may his surgery go as well as my guy's did!
Thanks for this!

ya my bulldog's stitches came apart a little bit and there was no way he was biting at them. There was a little bit of a pinkish fluid coming out where the stitches were. We raced him back to the vet and they said it was ok....My husband didn't believe them and snapped out a little bit, but he's fine. We pick on him alot for not having his equipment. lol.

Thank you for your replies!

The surgery went just fine...in fact, Zeppelin recovered very quickly and began HOWLING at the vet's! I was supposed to pick him up at 3, but they said I could come earlier so I did...he wasn't howling because of pain, but because he had to go in a cage. He's never been in a cage before.

So yeah, he's sleeping it off right now. Definitely not happy about the cone! I feel bad keeping it on him...but I also know that it's necessary. Hopefully this next week will go as smoothly as possible, at least, as smoothly as it can go with a hyper dog trapped in a cone! xD

glad to hear all is good. if the cone gets to be too much you can get a big towel & wrap it around his neck like one of those old neck braces people used to wear & secure it with duct tape..or the pet stores sell soft collars to use. the cones become deadly!

actually you can cut the cone down too if it becomes to unwieldly...trim back a few inches if need be..it's just so he can't bend around & get to himself..if it hurts his leg or crotch then he won't bother the wound.

my guy who just had surgery for a tumor last week is using the insurance collar not a cone because he would take out the walls, my legs trap leaves & have a hard time eating with one.

good luck! see told you everything would be fine. ya done good. thought about you today.
