My cat is a double coated longhair, this sudden heat is making him so miserable. He is panting occasionally like a tiger. Hes got a bowl of fresh water, access to our bathroom where its cool in the day when Im out, once Im back the windows are open and the fan on. Hes an indoor cat but does go out walking with me. I dont think hes using the bathroom to keep cool.Any suggestions as to what else I can do to keep him cool?..apart from clippers lol

My parents would shave my cat every summer in the style of a lion.

I don't know how else to keep him cool.
Thanks for this!

You can add ice cubes to his drinking water.

I'm not so sure about having him clipped. For some animals the long hair actually acts as insulation to help keep them cool. Plus if he has pale skin under the hair he can get sunburned when he goes on walks with you.

Try googling "keep pets cool" and you'll get a ton of advice. One thing I saw was something called a "Keep Cool Mat". They are for dogs and cats. You wet the mat and it stays cool for up to three days.

One article mentions that dogs and cats cool off through their feet. Would you cat let you rub ice cubes on his feet?

Another suggestion was to soak a towel in cold water and wipe the pet with the towel. Not sure what your cat's opinion of getting wet is. Some of mine would tolerate that. Some would remove important body parts.

Good luck to you and kitty!

Get him a Chillow to lie on. You can order online. It's for people to insert on their pillows & lowers temps 8-10°. Also Blue Ice in small bowls, fans blowing from behind, aimed at cat's hangout area. Several of these help.
Also if you don't have tile floors, buy a pack of tiles (plain, usually not much) and set them out in kitchen oven linoleum. Much cooer.

Can you maybe put ice packs down on the floor where there is no carpet so he can lay near them? My guy likes ice in his water, he is an indoor guy too.

Thankfully the heat dropped to a comfortable 18-21C hes way happier now. I didnt have ice cubes but I put water on his ear tips and paw pads at night. Also strategically placed squashy pillws beneath or next to draughty points, worked ok. I have come up with an idea for the top opening windows in my own bedroom so they can be open but no danger to him when Im out. Jali board cut to size and secured. Thanks for help and maybe this is useful for anyone else with an indoor kitty:
