When I was in the hospital this time they did a lot of psych tests on me and found out I have Avoidant and Dependent personality disorders as well as my borderline. If any of you have good books or websites to go to for these diagnoses please let me know. I want to know more about them. My T gave me the DSM stuff on it and that is all good but I would like to hear from others with these problems.

Sorry nothing on the first two...though google "STEPPS"...first one up should be about the emotional and behavior training class geared toward BPD...I'm starting one next Tuesday...

STEPPS Basic Skills Group Program

The Basic Skills Program consists of 20 weekly meetings of two hours each. Each week is organized around a skill that is the focus of the session. Some skills require more than one weekly session to teach. The skills include:

Distancing
Communicating
Challenging
Distracting
Managing Problems
Setting Goals
Eating
Sleeping
Exercise
Leisure
Physical Health
Abuse Avoidance
Relationship Management

I know you were looking for books...the books I read on BPD at least haven't been that helpful as they don't have anything like a how to approach...generally work books are highly technical and geared to instructions/therapists to basically do the above...

Good books on these topics are difficult to find. Do some Googling for DBT (dialectical behavior therapy), though, and I think you'll find some excellent resources. I found a site once that was really helpful but I lost the URL... sorry.

Sorry - no idea on books either other than Search for The Real Self by Masterson for BPD - but it doesn't cover the other two.

Emotional Regulation Therapy is another form of therapy that is sometimes used in connection with DBT. That might be another thing you could look up.

Direction - interesting class - never heard of it. Let us know what you learn and if it helps.

JBug: Hello, I also live in NW Arkansas and have found the area to be lacking in mental health care. Keep in mind that the tests you took in the hospital measured how you were feeling at the time you took the tests. While some of the questions you answered would always be the same, many of them were based on how you were feeling at the time and since you were in the hospital, I assume you were feeling very down or upset. While I depend on the medical professionals for my meds, I also do my own research and make the decision to take them based on how they react to my system. I wish you the best! Keep reading! Sincerely, Debra Some new diagnoses for me
