Does anyone here with BPD take any medication as needed ? Particularly for the psychosis, paranoia, and/or anxiety part of it?

Yes, I'm sorry I didn't clarify! The benzo is used to treated as a symptom of BPD.

thanks! I posted both places on purpose to get as many replies as possible.
Xanax currently works okay but I can't take it during the day much. I mostlyy use it after work. I'm also newly diagnosed and wondering if meds will be suggested. I'm pretty adamant about not taking meds. Those days though when I feel not a part of reality are getting hard to deal with. I just came off an episode of that and I'm utterly exhausted. I was wondering if there was anything that might zap me back...beam me back down.... i guess.I don't know.. . ![]() |

The klonopin is my only prn of the multi-med regimen for my BPD as well as other disorders. The anti-psychotics and such are on regular doses.
Good luck in your search for responses and answers!

yup.
i used to take a little chlorpromazine / largactil PRN for anxiety / agitation / stress / psychosis / sleep. especially for a couple days leading up to exams. that worked pretty well, truth be told. now... i take a little valium PRN for basically the same thing. i'm ambivalent about that to tell you the truth (i prefer to avoid medication that is potentially able to be abused / that is addictive / that works a little 'too' well leaving you wanting more. but i restrict myself quite well, and it does the trick, yeah. |

I have always taken some type of benzodiazepine for the anxiety-- I have anxiety problems aside from BPD so just like all meds along with personality disorders, it's just treating a symtpom. Right now I take Klonopin for anxiety/agitation. It used to be on an "as needed" basis, but my pdoc recently instructed me to take it everyday, morning and night, along with my other psych meds. As far as the paranoia, I don't know if you mean psychotic paranoia, or anxious paranoia. I experience paranoia in the sense that I KNOW what I am thinking is irrational and not true-- therefore it is not a form of psychosis, rather a lesser anxiety. The as needed meds do not help with this. I find them to be helpful with acute anxiety, but as far as general anxiety and agitation, they are not great for that.
