I was telling her about emailing the T.V. station about good I'm doing on the Emsam and she said she wasn't surprised because in her experience Borderlines do awesome on MAOI's. I know some of you have asked what meds do Borderlines do well on and this might be something to take to your Pdoc and talk to him/her about. They might be a little resistant to it because of it being an MAOI but the Emsam patches are the safest MAOI because if you stay below 20mg you don't have to do the special MAOI diet you can eat normal foods. I am on 6mg and have been on it for 6 weeks now and for 5 weeks have been suicidal thought and cut thought free. I have not cut or even thought about cutting since I started taking the Emsam. Before starting to take it I thought about it constantly. I also thought about suicide to the point they were talking about hospitalizing me again and this was a last ditch effort before doing it. I have not had to be hospitalized and I have had no reactions to the med. It is a 24 hour patch that I change out every day. I take the patch off when I shower and after I get dressed I put another one on. It is easy as pie. I just wanted to share the new med with y'all.

I used to take Parnate (tranylcipromine MAOI) and I did really well on it.
I know that's one of the more reactive varieties, which was too bad. I ended up having a really bad reaction (going to the ER for a CAT scan) and we ended up taking me off it. But it REALLY helped.

I'm taking Cymbalta/Wellbutrin/Seroquel now, which is working well for me, but it's good to know there's another alternative in case we need to shake the cocktail!
