went and got a perm on tuesday. it was already a bad day...triggering too due to phone call from the dying father. went out and got a perm and i don't know what the woman was told, because i sure didn't get what i wanted. i got this kinky, cork-screw curly mess...frizzy too.

well, today i figured out why i'm freaking out so bad about it. it looks just the same way the hair did when we lived in hawaii as a teen...very bad, crazy time. figured it out, not have to figure out how to be ok with it. i took a flat iron to it today and it doesn't look half bad.

thanks y'all.

I was going to suggest a flat iron the other day when you mentioned your disastrous hair results, but I was afraid it might be too damaging on freshly treated hair.

I hope you washed it a bunch of times right afterwards. That's a big no-no if you want to actually keep the curl, so in your case it would have helped the situation.

Another thing I'd try is some of that John Frieda serum that's made for frizzy, kinky hair. It might smooth it out enough that you won't have to mess with the hot iron every time.

I know this isn't a hair care thread, but hopefully it helps. i too figured out a trigger

thank you, wi. i washed it five times the first nite and two times the next day! i bought a really good name brand straightening cream and de-frizzer. it didn't work...just made it VERY oily.

flat iron or burr is only alternatives. i still may go and get a cut though i don't want to i too figured out a trigger

thank you again!

kimmydawn,

I'm glad you figured out that trigger. For me when I discover one, it's like I've found another piece to the puzzle-- the next step for me then, is figuring out how to put it in place. When I figure out a trigger it seems to give me a moment of relief. I'm happy you figured one out!!!

I was thinking.... about your perm, if you ever get one again-- you might want to make sure they use the larger curlers-- then you won't get such tight-kinky curls.-- just a thought..

Try working with the curls. Style it in a new way.

Neutrogena makes a product called Triple Moisture (Healing Shine Serum). It makes your hair moisturized, soft, silky, and not-frizzy. If you use it in moderation, you hair won't be greasy. It has a wonderful smell.

It is possible that the smell of your hair also triggered you.

2b1, thank you so much. i do feel some better. i asked for a body perm with loose big curls. my hair has natural curl and i even fixed it almost as i wanted it. she used the white rollers. my mother said too small and that's why I came out kinky curly.

thank you so much!

jennie, great suggestion! i've been doing that and did find a style that's kinda-sorta cute. i will try the product. thank you. i'm thinking about getting a cut that might work with the curls. however, they would just get kinkier with the shorter hair, so i probably won't.

thanks again,

kd
