Hello All ~~
I am new here - but not new to PTSD; which I suffer from the loss of my daughter almost 7 years ago. While googling "EMDR" tonight - I seen a post on this forum; so I joined - but - now I can't find the post!

I begin EMDR in July and am wondering if anyone here has been helped by it. I've done alot of research; but haven't found much about success stories.

I look forward to getting to know you and my way around here!

I have no idea what it's like to lose your own child, but I hope you feel better soon.

Hi, sorry about your loss, I have no words to express how hard that must be to lose a child.

I have heard of EMDR and therapists say it does help, some say it is a cure, well I doubt that, but anything is possible. It can be exhausting I have been told but I do not have any personal experience. Perhaps others have, just wait, maybe someone will come forward.

Hi zingyzing,

Welcome to PC. I haven't experienced EMDR, but I've known others who have. Many have been helped by it. Good luck to you as you decide what would be the best thing for you.

My therapist and I do EMDR. As I understand the theory behind it, the alternating impulses allows the brain to stay focused on the present while examining past trauma. Probably an over simplifacation, but... In any event, whatever we're doing, it seems to be working. I know i feel like a different person - MOST of the time. Sure there are times when "the terrors" come back, but those visits are far shorter and longer in between. And we've delved into some pretty heavy stuf using EMDR. I'm sure we're FAR from done - been at it 4 years - but I gotta say, whatever it is, the results for me have been startling. I'm doing things this summer that I would have NEVER been able to do even 6 months ago. And FEELING in a way I thought would never happen for me.

Not sure if all that makes sense, but - I know what I'm trying to say. LOL!!

Good luck with therapy!!
Thanks for this!
