I'm waking up from sleep with nightmares of rushing water coming in. Trying to get to safety in the attic, forgetting the ax. 12 feet of water in the streets again.

When i'm driving, i'm zoning out into some kind of freaky dreams. When i come back to it, i've driven blocks if not a mile or more.

The stress i'm going through now is not helping it. I don't know what to do to stop it. I'm trying to stay away from others talking, the media, but it just surrounds me.

This is really making me sick.

Sometimes you have to take extra measures to be safe. If you find you are not safe driving, then you must find other ways to get to where you need to be, for the time being.

Added stress does this to someone who has been traumatized. It happens to everyone like that.

Are you reducing all the extra stress you can? Turn off the phones, if not for all day, then for a large part of the time you are there. Open your mail, bills one day a week when you are ready for it. Watch movies or listen to tapes and such that have no chance of bulletins or news of any sort. Read books that take you away from the thoughts of the event. Play intensive games that distract you. When you are out, feel free to tell others that you don't wish to hear about it, if they begin to share. (However, talking and talking and talking about it helps to work through it, and if there are others that do likewise, it will help you in the long run, if you are able.)

Before bed, indulge yourself and fill your mind with really good stuff!
Tell yourself it isn't happening now, it isn't.

(((((WMD, Muffy and Sky))))) Thank ya'll so much for your kind words.

Sky, i'm already trying some of the things that you suggested. Hearing my cell phone ring triggers me intensely. So i have it on vibrate, usually dont here that. So, i'll check it off and on. I try to keep myself busy, but with this depression i want to just lie around most of the time. Yesterday i did get out and spent about 6 hours fishing down at Shell Beach. Where we fish there is on a bunch of broken slabs of cement and i took a pretty good fall trying to catch a delaware punch that went rolling. I lost my balance and fell hard rolling down into a crevace of the cement. Knocked myself kinda silly cause of the way i fell. But i'm okay, just sore. I'm going to try some of the other things you suggested.

My counsler told me this past week that before i go to bed as i'm laying there to think of good things and tell myself that tomorrow is going to be a good day. I've tried it every night so far, but its not working yet. I'll keep on trying that though, with hopes of it working sooner or later.

Again, thank you all. And i havent been driving the past few days. Letting others drive me caues i'm still zoning out. I'll see a billboard with something to do about the storm and thats it. I go into another world.

hugs,
chalmette

It's hard to " block " what we felt during a trauma.

I don't have very good advice to give you. I wish I did.

Take good care!
