Wasn't really sure if this is Dissociation or PTSD, apologies.
![]() Is it ever safe or a good idea to try and "force" yourself to remember things, or just wait until they come? I know I "hide" memories from myself for a reason, there's a reason there is so much I don't remember, but it's driving me troppo not knowing them.

Ok first what is troppo? I gotta know.I guess I dont know the answer to your question but I think forcing yourself to remember things isnt the best idea expecially by yourself. Hang in there.

I think most therapists advocate letting the memories come. If you try to force things, you might misremember, or re-traumatize yourself because you are not yet ready to face the memories.
My memories have come as I felt safe enough in counseling to discuss them. They would just...bubble up in my mind, and sharpen over time. Both my therapist and I have strongly suspected sexual abuse in my past, but I don't remember anything specific. I figure, if my mind isn't letting me know, maybe I'm not ready for knowing. |
