Newbie hereNeed answers re: Klonopin
Thanks to a close friend of mine who is currently battling issues with Klonopin (Clonazepam) I am beginning to realize previous issues I faced may have been Klonopin related. Need answers re: Klonopin
I am also very concerned about some seriously abnormal behavior in my elderly mother who is also on Klonopin as a part of her Parkinson's cocktail.
Please, any information or helpful links would be greatly appreciated. Specific concerns are: behavioral differences, differences in the ability to make rational decisions and the infamous withdrawal problems. Thank you so much in advance!

Hello kristenkvinna! Need answers re: Klonopin Welcome to the ever expanding Psychocentral...............I did a little of my drug searches that I used occassionally during my years of nursing school.

One thing I can tell you about your elderly mother mixing Klonopin w/ ANY alcohol ( or any addt'l sedative-like med)is extremely dangerous; especially w/ older adults b/c their metabolism rate is much slower; thus, the drug can build up in her system & become "toxic"
Which might equal to very bad news.

AS far as I quickly researched my files on medications; I found one site that links to a resource net of most 200 & 300 drug names, side effects, doses, adverse effects; everything you may want........if not, they are also hooked up to WebMD; HealthTouch; and or Medline.com which is also connected to Drug.Info searches Need answers re: Klonopin
Do not take my referrals in place of professional doctors references! I'm an unemployed nurse......disclaimer...entered Need answers re: Klonopin

The web site to get you rolling is:

www.mentalhelp.net/ look up Home Page; scroll
down on the right side where it
says "Resources" Find Medication
Information & I think you can go
anywhere from there; it's a

thoroughly researched web link. Hope this helps!

If you
want to really "go for the gold" my second choice would be

www.mayoclinic.com They have a finely recognized drug Tx
and drug information sections.

Hope this helps give a place to start!

Dayzee, i believe that she was referring to a "medical cocktail" that has been prescribed to her mother for Parkinson's disease. It would be a combination, which included klonopin. pat

klonopin saved my life, and gave me back a normal life. I have built no tolerance, never increased doseage for the 15 years I have taken it, and to my knowledge, have no side effects. As for the Parkinson's cocktail, Klonopin is used frequently, but in the elderly needs to be monitored very carefully.

Dayzee gave you great link along with others to read up on Klonopin.

I had my Mother's surgeon give me a totally questional response when I asked him about the problem with cognative abilities my Mother began having. He told me that she was just getting older & that any chronic illness creates a lack of cognative abilities. The way I saw it was that she might have had a mild stroke or that the cancer had spread to her brain. And all I got was their stupid response.

I think it is good to use meds that will work & klonopin can be given in mild doses do work into the other drugs that need to be taken....just be careful & keep a close monitor on everything that she takes. Sometimes as people get older, it is hard to tell what causes what with them & it seems to be all guess work in the end. (With that explaination that fits me....I must be elderly at 52)

Just be careful, be observant, & take care of yourself or you will be the one needing the meds,
Debbie
