My counselor said a lot of psych meds cause memory loss. Has anyone else had this problem?

I haven't heard that but get a 2nd opionion and do a little research (webmd.com maybe?) I'm on a low-dose of Fluoxotine, which is generic Prozac. I did have "side effects" initially and still do a little bit but I'm working on the mental side of things with a lot of vitamins and supplements. Mental capability has been enhanced but I'm taking 12-13 pills a day - everything from multi-vitamins to gensing and other stuff. Also, lost 35 pounds in the course of this year since late January - I'm a 6' tall man who went from 235+ to now just a hair above 200. Mainly on vitamins and raising energy levels (and eating better).

Best thing for your mind are things that help mental function - whether supplements, natural foods, fish, veggies and so on. And sleep - more sleep = better mental processing.

Yes! I've experienced this but don't know which drug(s) caused my memory probs.

Try taking Vitamin B12 supplement. It's supposed to help memory. I believe it's helped me (of course, I'm no longer on psych meds, too.)

Initially starting my meds, I experienced some memory issues. Very severe absent mindedness. It made me feel scared because I had never been this way. Eventually, it got better. I still am forgetful at times but all in all, I think its normal....whatever that is. LOL

What was teh question again?.... Memory Loss

On 200 mg of Zoloft, I was a walking zombie. I could not process even the simplest of ideas or even remember what I was talking about.... in the middle of a conversation.

Paxil doesn't seem to affect me negatively in any way, other than constipation.

Wellbutrin makes me a little spacy at 100mg. At 150, I am hyper and absentminded. At 300 mg (150 2x/day), I was a posterchild for chemically induced ADHD. Also, I could not walk straight or stop shaking.

So I am on 100 mg of Wellbutrin, and I am a little absent sometimes. I have to focus hard to remember things when I am tired or busy. It does keep me from hyper-focusing, which was an issue with my ptsd.

Anyway, some of the meds give me short-term memory problems... more like difficulty processing information. I've never had any long-term memory problems... at least none that I can remember... Memory Loss
