I have only been taking a few xanax a day for about 2 mths and decided to stop taking it 3 days ago. I have had a horrible time - today has been better but is this normal to feel such withdrawal symptoms (constant shakiness, insomnia, and depression). My psychiatrist and psychologist are both on vacation and I'm not sure who to ask. Thanks!

oh, yes it is. do you have any that you can take to take the edge off? you're supposed to taper off meds such as this. did dr not tell you that? i would call the dr's office. there should be a stand in while he/she's gone.

gl!

I take xanax and I have no problems with it....it is the only thing that helps my anxiety they have tried others but we always come back to xanax...if I do go off of it my doctor says to taper off...no cold turkey or I could have bad reaction...maybe that is what is happening to you...

Guess I have been lucky with my cold turkey stopping of Valium & other Benzos. I had been taking it for about 10 years more on than off & had OD'ed on it many times. I just decided to stop taking all my psych meds & that was it. I don't know if it is because I am on Fentynal (a narcotic) for my migraines that going of other meds doesn't seem to have any effect on me....I know going of the fentynal whenever that may happen will be a serious time for me. So far I have been on the level I'm on for almost 3 years without having to increase the dose (which is 200ug/hour).....we are all happy with the results I am having with it cause I haven't felt a migraine for those 3 years (big miracle). I don't know if I ever have a migraine & just don't feel it because of the pain med, but as long as I don't feel it, I believe I haven't had one. Will see when I have an MRI again so it can determine if the liasions in my brain have increased (indicating that I am having migraines). I know I'm not cured because I droped the dosage one time & the pangs of a migraine seemed to come back.

I take xanax for my panic disorder. It is the only thing that helps. It is highly addictive and should never, ever be stopped cold turkey. It is highly dangerous to do so. Every once in a while I reach tolerance on my dosage and have to go through withdrawl symptoms while I cut back 1/2 dose to get it to work again. It's a horrible feeling.

Years ago I became addicted to Valium. I gradually tapered myself off. Withdrawal is truly horrible. Now I take xanax ...but only when I am in crisis.

Glad you are hip to what could happen if ya' stop cold turkey.
