Hi All,

I've been on meds a few months now. The next stretch before I see him is two months away. After that I feel like I'm really ready to stretch it out much further, as long as everything is going smoothly. I was wondering what others have to say about how often you go to see your pdoc?
Also, he has a "call in" line where you can call this number if you only need to have your script filled. It costs $10 to use it. Does your pdoc do this sort of thing? Do you use this?

Thx!

I see my pdoc every three months but he or I can move the appt sooner if needed. I can email him anytime if I have a question or concern. A couple of times he has admitted me based on our email conversations. If I need a med called in his RN will fax it for me for no charge.

I see my pdoc every 4 - 6 weeks generally. Sometimes we go a bit longer in between. It varies.

When I need a prescription refill, I call my pharmacy and they fax a request for refills directly to my pdoc's office (if I don't have refills left on my prescription). I've never had to pay for prescriptions, but I know it is becoming more common practice, particularly with prescriptions for controlled substances that have to be hand written and picked up personally at the doctor's office. Personally I think it's a lousy practice; I don't get the logic behind it. But that seems to be becoming common practice.

I am getting into the habit of going every 6 months, regardless of if there's anything major I need to discuss.
I have just started on lithium, and he has told me to phone in any time I have an issue, and I am also seeing him in January-3 months down the line.
If I need a refill script, he writes me one, and faxes it to my pharmacy.
It costs about $25! Paid by my insurance, as everything for Bipolar has to be, by law, covered by insurance
Thanks for this!

I see my Pdoc every 30 days......... I don't think he has a RX line, only because I get refills when I see him.....

I'm still new to this but I am seeing him every 4-6 weeks while we are tweaking my meds. My Rx benfit thru my work requires me to use a mail order pharmacy that gives you 90 day supplies. We haven't really talked about it but I'm sure I could call him if I needed him sooner
Thanks for this!

Just clarifying something I wrote. I don't have to pay for the prescriptions to be written, but I do pay for my prescriptions. I know that some doctors charge for writing refill prescriptions on drugs that require a written prescription rather than call ins (like adhd meds, pain meds, etc.).

I see my pdoc every 4 - 6 weeks. More often if he thinks I need more frequent monitering. I usually pick up my scripts at the end of the session, but if I run out of something between appointments, my pharmacy can fax him with a refill request, and he'll refill it. But he really isn't thrilled about doing that.

I see my psychiatrist every 2-3 weeks, we are just starting out, I have only been seeing her for about 3 months, and we are still working on meds. I see my therapist once per week, if she has an opening.....The clinic I go to, is really hard to get into, 1st visit usually takes 6 months, i got lucky and someone cancelled so i got in within a month. Their cancellation policy is sucky too, if you don't call at least 24 hours in advance to cancel, then you can't go back for 6 months....
Thanks for this!

I see my pdoc every 4 weeks no matter what and it has been that way since I started seeing her in 2008. When she put me in the hospital in August and I got out I saw her every week for a while then it was every 2 weeks and now its every 3 weeks as we get my meds worked out. She has a phone line just for meds where I can call in with questions or refill requests but most of the time she will make me come in for an appointment as she doesnt like to change my meds over the phone.
Thanks for this!

Right now I'm seeing my pdoc every 3 weeks as we do med adjustments and tweaks. I'm sure it'll be less often once we get everything sorted.

I see my pdoc every three months. I wish I could see him every six or so but I think it might be based on reg's as well as how long the rx's can be written for. I have been completely stable for three years.

I see my PNP every 3 months. I can go sooner if I want. Since I only go every 3 months, I usually do a full appointment (50-60 minutes) instead of a shorter med management appointment (20-30 minutes).

I see my pdoc every 6 months or sooner if I need to. I can call and she will call me back if a problem arises. I only see her for med checkup and it lasts like maybe 10-15 mins
Thanks for this!

I go to see my pdoc minimum every 3-4 months whether I think I need to or not to make sure I stay on track and sometimes sooner. Also on the other side is that I have been known to fool myself into thinking I am ok and I have not been so it is just safer that I go in on this schedule at a minimum. I can go in sooner if need to and is a phone call away if there are any issues. Fills prescriptions when I go in, or the pharmacy calls it in when I run out between sessions.

I had another pdoc, that there was a fee to call in scripts between sessions. Then I learned, if the pharmacy called it in when I ran out, there was no fee. Perhaps this is the same with your office. Another pdoc did the same thing for $15 fee but would only write scripts for 60 days with no refills, and the pharmacy could not call it in; I switched docs.

I've never been charged when I call the psych NP for a refill. I see her about every 2 months and try to get all my refills then. But oh well sometimes I need a refill in between.

I bet if I stopped seeing her regularly she would make me come in for an appt before refilling.

I can't imagine using the refill line as a money making venture.
