If one was on Prozac and wanted to take Ecstasy?

i don't know enough about the politics of the pharmaceutical industry to really comment, but sounds lovely and capitalist to me ...

I do not know how long ago you heard about the "golfing trips", but that was nixxed a long time ago, and are watched closely. Prozac and other meds may work well for some while not others. Unfortunately, you may have been a person, that had a negative reaction, perhaps another choice of med by your doc may have benefited you.
I have had,over the years some meds that weren't for me and then have found one that works perfect. Sometimes, one has to try different ones till you see what works, under doctor's care and supervision.
Quite unfair to pass judgment on the "whole" pharmaceutical industry, for the small percentage vs the majority that have had unfavorable results. There have been cases where some people on prescription meds, abused the med and/or mixed stuff causing ill side effects, who go onto blame their docs and/or drug companies. Then there is the chance the doc didn't go over the med enough with the patient and the patient's health background, which also is another factor of possible negative outcomes.
See, there is a large "grey" area to this all. It is good for people to see the whole picture, before making comments, about the "money-spinner" meds.
Many of the old tri-cyclics have been phased out and replaced with the newer type meds. is because the newer types have had more favorable outcome(s) and less side effects for a large percentage of people. New meds coming out more and more, and not solely for business, but to find the best meds that meet people's needs according to their disorder and health. I'm sorry to hear you had bad experience(s) with your doc(s) and meds., but for your own benefit in the future, give meds a chance if needed, and perhaps consider switching to another doc. That may help, bring back confidence. I wish you well with all of this, and hope your days are much brighter.

Certainly my days are much brighter, thank you. I find your vision somewhat Utopian as far as mental health practitioners are concerned, but I am new here and perhaps that is the acceptable ethos. You seem to assume that I am anti- pharmeceuticals:- this is not the case at all. I just question the universal panacea. I just don't want to climb into that great big blender.ss

Nope. Sorry, I do not see you as "anti-pharmaceutical", nor do I live in "Utopia", I gave up on that place eons ago.
I just wish people would take time to broaden (sp?) their world,views,etc. before bashing stuff. Believe it or not, I have conflicting views with medications,docs.,treatments,polictics,religion, etc., but I devote time to research all aspects as possible, then sit down and do the math. Again, I have never been an "A" student in math, algebra,pre-calc, and so on, but I am still able to see much of both sides.
I hear you, and think I feel where you are coming from, for I have been very much in a similar place and time.
On that note, I still wish you well, regardless what views you and I share or not share.
