I hear like a pounding or shuffling. It is the same pattern.
As I wean almost totally off the Effexor it has gotten worse.
I am down to the last few days of 37.5 mg every other day. Last night was an off night.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this coming off of this drug????
God, it is awful!

I weaned off of Effexor rather rapidly and I experienced a number of strange and alarming reactions.

Head pounding I think I can identify with. Head shuffling (and that is an awesome word) seemed par for the course throughout the time that I took and stopped taking Effexor.

A complex drug for many - wishing you luck and peace!!!

Thanks Sabrina for your feed back.
Question...are you completely off Effexor now? Has the shuffling stopped?
It is the worst feeling/sound in the world right now

To answer your question requires a bit of history. Effexor was prescribed to me about 2 years ago. After 10 weeks or so it became apparant that this drug was doing nothing much more than adding weight to me among a number of other side effects as well as adding much much more to my current emotional trauma.

I weaned far more rapidly than what you are doing, so I guess I can say that yes, the shuffling stopped. But it is something I really remember and can relate to.

Sorry if this doens't really help - I do understand the .... the .... the feeling ......sensation .... feeling .... whatever ... And yes .... it is very much the worst feeling and sound in the world!

I wish you much strength. As lame as it sounds ... it does eventually get better.

My thoughts are with you.

susan, it sounded like rocks rubbing against each other in my skull. it was one of the worst periods in my "mental health" life. i'll never, ever forget what i went through.

you will be in my thoughts and if you need to talk more, PM me. i so feel for you. i'm sorry that i wasn't aware, before, that you were going off of it.

my pharmacist and i counted the little "balls"......that's how bad off i was. and i lost 38 lbs on it. i only ate every 3rd or 4th day!! i am really glad that you're going to be off of it. my doctor was an *** and wouldn't help me get off it. know why? he told me that no one quits taking what HE PRESCRIBED>

pat, thanks for the support. I don't see the pdoc anymore who even presribed the med. She was a moron. I see a "real" pdoc now. I know I have to bare with the "shuffling".
In my head it is the same pattern over and over again.
It makes me just want to scream at times because it is so deafening.
I will let you know how I progress with my symptons (and hopefully lack of symptoms) as time moves forward.

I'm weaning off of one med and back to my regular dosage of another and having uncomfortable side effects, so I feel ya on this.

But as Pat (I think) said - it will go away. It's the waiting that's the hard part.

I'm just glad I'm getting off some of this stuff... Almost completely off Effexor and I hear really strange loud noises in my head..

Ok, taking double the amount of seroquel I normally take is helping quiet the damn shuffling.
It better go away soon or I am taking a hammer to my head!

I have been on Effexor for 3 years and I came off it for 4 months in between. The shuffling you describe I describe as "electric shocks in my head" - nasty feeling but the good news is it does go away and I would persevere. I know its awful, my brother had this too when he was coming off AD's. I wish you all the best, take care
