Are loud, wierd noises and images in my head (accompanied by a wierd pins and needles like feeling in my head) part of depression? Does this happen to other people with depression or is it something deeper
...I don't hear voices or see things when I'm not depressed,
It scares me though and I can never seem to get them to stop unless I get myself to sleep... if it happens early in the day it's worse 'cause I can't really sleep it off

any help or advice is great
thanks

molly

hi SMG.. i did a quick search here at PC for you.. noises and images, from what i have read... are common in the 'schizophrenic' experiences..... not really educated in that area and sometimes the language is pretty scientific...

i occcasionally hear a noise which doesnt seem to have a source... its a little mystifying, but comical also when i discover it was the neighbors music, or a radio turned down low.... when tired i will sometimes hear 'tunes' from someplace... my ears may ring... thats in an exhausted state of mind tho... not a usual thing for me...

hope this helps some...

I have heard that severe depression can be accompanied by psychotic symptoms but that's all I really know. I'd recommend talking to a therapist about this.

Good luck and be safe.

I agree that it could be depression with psychotic symptoms or even schizophrenia but before going that route, what meds do you take? I know when I would be late or miss my Effexor I would get strange sensations and noises in my head - I could hear my eyes move and would work at making them not move because the sound sensation made me dizzy and nauseous. Once I took the dose of Effexor it ususally went away in an hour or two. So, long story short, look at side effects of your meds before you worry about a worse disease.

If you know they're being produced by your own brain (that's "good insight") they're actually less worrisome to your psychiatrist than they would be if you thought they were real instead of your mind playing tricks on you. Some people actually hear voices and have completely normal lives.

Psychotic symptoms do not make schizophrenia... there are other criteria. And of course you can get psychotic symptoms with your depression too, easily.

Schizoaffective is a diagnosis that's mainly depression, but with some psychotic symptoms.

thanks guys Noises and images in head
I'm not taking any med as far as my depression and anxiety is concerned... I REALLY don't want to from past experience and my age and such... also not very good at taking tablets (developed a bit of a phobia because I've had to take so much stuff and it hasn't seemed to help, get really anxious when I do)... other than that I'm just taking birth control.
I know that the voices and noises and sights I hear and see aren't real... but they're more 'in' my head... it's not like the voices are as clear as normal voices although it is still distressing. It's normally fast bickering.
I'm currently STILL on a waiting list to see another councillor, but I'll speak to them when I get an appointment.

nowheretorun... thanks for the link, just done a bit of research and disregarding images I may talk to my doctor about Tinnitus.

</font><blockquote><div id="quote"><font class="small">Quote:</font>
"Tinnitus is not itself a disease but a symptom resulting from a range of underlying causes, including ear infections, foreign objects or wax in the ear, and injury from loud noises. Tinnitus is also a side-effect of some oral medications, such as aspirin, and may also result from an abnormally low level of serotonin activity."

</div></font></blockquote><font class="post">

I have had reoccurring ear infections since I was really young... and it also says it can be linked to serotonin levels, depression.

I will talk to my doc about it and also my councillor when I see them, thanks everyone
