Hi Cam:

I am pretty new to this board. I am really impressed about how kind you are about giving all the help to us while having your own difficulties and working so many hours.

My question is this: I started taking Wbtn at 75 mg and started feeling real good. This faded out in a few days so my dose was increased to 150 mg. Same thing happened. I understand 300 mg is a therapeutic dose. If it is raised to 300 mg will it still fade out on me?

Thank you very much

kk

Hi kittykat,

Cam is on an extended leave of absence from the board, so we're all trying to help each other out here. Wellbutrin was one of the first meds I took and it pooped out on me after about 8 weeks. Some people have good luck with it, some people don't. If I had to guess, and that's what I'd be doing here, if the Wellbutrin has lost it's potency at the first two doses, chances are it will do the same when you reach your therapeutic dose. Of course I'm not a doctor and I'm just talking off the top of my head here. Hopefully some of the others with some experience with the med can give you some input.

I wish you all the best of luck, and please let is know how it works out for you, OK?

Greg

Thanks for your reply. That is the only med that has worked for me. When your wbt pooped out, what were prescribed after that?

I also am taking Wellbutrin but am not sure it is working anymore. I dread the thought of trying soemthing new as I am terrified of taking something and gaining weight. I was on paxil and celexa and gained. I recently was successful in losing weight (54lbs) and do not want any of it back. So I keep putting off talking to my dr.

Thanks for listening.

Karen

I was on wb and had every side effect that could possibly negatively effect you...I hated it . Alot of meds do that to me though. Paxil and wb being the worse.

kittykat,

I am on Wellbutrin, and I had the same effect that you did with lower dosages. For awhile, pretty much every time I went to the p-doc, she increased my dosage. But now I am on 300mg and I've been doing pretty good for months, without any sign of it pooping out (knock wood).

So I wouldn't give up on it just yet.

Hi kk,

I'm glad mj responded to you (she's great people BTW), just goes to show you that what doesn't work for one person, can work great for another. I should have made a point of saying that in my reply to you. Anyway, it took a long time to find the right combo of meds for me. My doctor probably tried close to 30 meds before we settled on a combo of Zyprexa and Topamax for my Bipolar symptoms, and a low dose (.5 mgs as needed) of Klonopin for my Anxiety. I've been very lucky to have had doctors who were very persistent in my treatment.

But to answer your specific question, the next med I was rx'd after Wellbutrin was Effexor.

I hope some of this helps.

Greg

Hi bptoo:

I am going around in circles. I am trying to figure out if my anemia is causing the weakness and fatigue and depression. The wbt is helping me to keep out of the worse black, scary depression. My hemoglobin dropped to 6 last year and I went to the psych hospital for depression and it was there that they found out that my hg was six and I was transfused with 2 units of blood.

Now I am back on Wellbutrin and Serzone. While the wbt is doing well with increases, I am getting worse every day with the exhaustion and depression. The doc I am going to can't see me until the 12th and I can't wait till then. He said that I get irritations in my stomach that make me bleed. I went and had my blood drawn yesterday and they said they would send it right away to him. I called his nurse this morning and she said that they hadn't sent it. It would be 2-3 days before they sent it. Yaaa!

I can't go on like this, I am to tired to do anything. I am going to see my GP today and if she still can't get my bloodwork, I am going to check myself into the psychhospital. At least I will get a stat blood draw or Iget the results in the morning. What a way to go. I was an RN and Iprobably know too much for my own good.

Thank you for caring, it makes me feel not so much alone.

If you don't hear from me in a few days, I will be in the hospital. I will get back to you with what's going on.

Love

kk

Oh kk,

I can only imagine how scary all this must be for you. But you have many here (including me) pulling for you, and I hope that you get the answers you seek. Even if that means a few days or so in the hospital. Just remember that you're doing all this for your own best interest. If you're having internal bleeding, it's time to get answers, and not in three days from now, right now, today. I hope you'll push as hard as you need to to get this ball rolling. Please, let me know if there's anything I can do from my end to assist you, OK?

And let us know how this turns out. I'm hoping for you.

Love and Hugs,

Greg

Regarding your anemia, how low was it? Mine is 7.4 and has been declining for years. The hemo doc didn't even bother to give any report regarding the results, but gladly took my $300... my current neuro kept yelling at me to find out the report... like this was 3 years ago and the hemo guy won't do it, why not just get new tests? Nah, and he won't do anything for me either. Is this, like, also in my head? I hope I die soon from ANYTHING, even anemia.

Sorry, got a little off track... just want you to know we are also in circles.{/purple]

Think hard before switching to something else. I tried a ton of other things and nothing worked *except* Wellburtrin....I have no idea why...probably because everyone has a different body chemistry. Some of the other antidepressants are bad news though.

Hi, I'm new to your board and very glad I found it. I've been struggling with anxiety attacks for the past 6years. I've been off and on different meds. I had a complete hysterectomy two years ago next month. That's when they started back up again. I took myself off of effexor back in Nov thinking I was ok. NOT SO. My GP has now prescribed Wellbutrin XL 150. My question is, how long will it take for this stuff to work? I going crazy here. I just started it on Saturday, maybe I'm jumping the gun, but I need some relief.

Thanks in advance

Haven't been around for a while, spending so much time trying to get my head and medicines straight. Your hemoglobin of 7. whatever is very low. Mine got down to 6. and I had to be transfused with 2 units of blood. When the doc did my endoscopy, he said I was bleeding from hundreds of tiny blood vessels in my stomach that bleed when my stomach gets irritated. Lot of the meds do that. My hemoglobin is finally up to 10.5 with the iron pills I am taking. They took me off Fosamax which irritates the esophagus and going to put me on a nasal spray.

Can't understand why you can't get your lab reports. All your other doctor has to do is request it with your signature. It probably doesn't mean a whole lot now and the thing to do now is to get a brand new CBC and go from there.

Hope this helps and makes a little sense. You hve got to get some REAL doctors, responsible doctors. And no, it is not in your head. Get some responsible doctors. Get that CBC now. No telling what your hemoglobin is now. That just makes me so mad about those doctors.

Tks kittykat... actually, the new cbc is 7.4.... the other lab tests were done in office of the oncologist/hemotologist and the office never would send his report about what to do etc to my gp.

NOW I have to go back to him... since it's even lower... and he's the best in the area... I see him April 9th? yeah. gee I also have a new rhemie appt that day... too much!

well, I'm thinking they can't do anything. I have tmd (jaw) problems which limit my chewing food and I swallow most of it... and I lost my senses of smell and taste with the injury, so it isn't fun to eat anyway.

and... my body won't take iron pills and such, but removes them from my system, and it doesn't take in nutrients from food like bodies are supposed to! add to this my physical and ptsd problems with trying to make menus, shop, cook nah it just don't happen.

anyway... this is not about wellbutrin so I be quiet now.

meditation is a true way to connect to the Source
