So, I'm officially med-free for about a week now. It's been three years since the last time I went off SSRI's and I forgot how awful it is. I remember that there were brain zaps, but it's impossible to remember how horrible they are.
I'm feeling awful. :/ I know it's something I'll have to deal with until everything is out of my system, but does anyone have any advice to ease this transition?
Did anyone find something that helped the electric shocks or nausea?
Anything would be greatly appreciated!

I think I read here that allergy meds can help. Can't verify that personally. I sympathize with you... I know how it feels.
Thanks for this!

Herbal teas, I found ones with fennel really helped, it might just have been keeping hydrated that did the trick. I took my last Effexor over a week ago now and have not had any withdrawal effects for 4 days now. Hoping you feel better soon.
Thanks for this!

Those things give me a bad case of anxiety! Well benadryll at least. It may just be specifically that one. Thanks though!
I am definitely working on staying hydrated. Hopefully all this will clear up in a few days.

Fresh ginger tea may help. Minced the ginger into a tea holder and pour in hot water. It's also soothing. Warm or hot water (nothing added) absorbs better than ice water. Probably need all the help you can get to clean your system.

Thank you! Yes I do think I'll do a sort of cleanse starting tomorrow, nothing but tea, water and healthy food!
Thanks for the idea, I love ginger!

I would think it is not so much about getting it out of your system, that has probably happened already. It is that your receptors in your brain and body got used to the serotonin and now it is gone and things are out of wack. I don't know much about withdrawal but it would seem it would be about getting those receptors rebalanced. Maybe there are supplements that can help. There are books written about it.

I don't know if you are right or not but when I came off an ssri it was a cleanse that gave me the last push with then zero symptoms after 6 weeks of slow withdrawal. I was also able to stop all caffeine intake with a minor headache during the cleanse. That was unintentional and kind of a bummer because I love my coffee but definitely a learning experience.

Although I haven't been able to stay off meds completely, I did last for 21 days before depression set in. I took magnesium, vitamin B complex, fish oil, vitamin D, probiotics, and a multi-vitamin. If I was going to do it over (and I will eventually just not now) then I would add in st. johns wort, 5HTP, or SAM-e. I hear those are helpful for mood and perhaps it can help with the craziness going on with the serotonin. No expert just the things I've heard others suggest.

Calcium and magnesium should help.

I've been med free for what I think is 3 weeks now (after a year of hellish tapering), so I'm in a similar place. I get the zaps, headaches and dizziness.

I use the allergy medicine to help me sleep (and honestly to deal with allergies), not during the day to help symptoms. I take omega-3, 5HTP, NAC, at times GABA, magnesium, choline. It may seem like a lot, but I've been dealing with withdrawal for a while, remember, so I've been trying anything that may help.

I hope you feel better soon! I know how bad withdrawal or any dose change can make you feel, but it does get better.

Thanks guys I'm feeling much better as of now. Though I still have some brain zaps and nausea. I was able to sleep last night without having to take a xanax so I was pretty happy about that.
