I'm trying to figure out if my prolonged menstruation problem is related to my Vyvanse, and if anyone else has experienced this problem too:
I was diagnosed with adult inattentive ADHD just a couple months ago. The prescription has been a miracle, though I'm still trying to remove myself from built up bad habits of the past. Anyway... around the time I started my Vyvanse, I started my period, and it lasted for a little over a month straight, which has never happened, though I have had weird/irregular cycles on my bc. My doctor said the Vyvanse could affect the way the bc was being metabolized in my system, but I have found no evidence of this in my research so far. (in reality she can't tell me exactly what's going on, and I'm getting a little anxious/irritated/worried). She tried regulating my cycle with supplemental estrogen, but now a month later I've had my period for 2 weeks, and who knows if/when its going to stop. Its becoming so frustrating and discouraging! There don't seem to be enough studies relating Vyvanse and hormones to begin with, and now I'm afraid if I switch birth control, I will be on a wild goose chase trying to find one I like, that will have a balanced level of hormones to stop this problem, or I'll have to try and switch from my Vyvanse, which I'd rather not do for similar reasons. I just can't handle the prolonged PMS symptoms, especially combined with the Vyvanse "comedown" on such a regular basis.

Hi, clouded snow, and welcome! I am not aware that such stimulants can affect menstrual length. How about asking your doctor about it? You might want to see your regular doctor, too, if it continues. Okay?

Thank you travelinglady I have already spoken to my psychiatrist as well as two OBGYN's about it. The psychiatrist and one OBGYN (a new one, since my regular doc wasn't available on short notice) said they didn't know of any correlation between Vyvanse and birth control/menstruation. But when I spoke to my regular OBGYN, who put my bc implant in originally, she said there could be a link between the Vyvanse and bc, that the Vyvanse makes the bc metabolize faster in my system rendering it less effective. However this doesn't make sense to me since the bc is going directly to my bloodstream 24/7, though maybe it can still make a difference. Basically I've concluded that there is not enough medical research of this relationship for even the doctors to know what to do. My doctor admittedly said she does not know what to do or what the specific cause for my extra bleeding could be. So that is why I'm seeking answers from people who may have experienced a similar problem.

Stimulants affect your thyroid. Any hormonal imbalance can change your cycle.

Home remedies for prolonged/heavy menstruation include

Cinnamon tea.
Eat an egg sunny side up (this really works and its better in summer than cinnamon). Have one with each meal if you need it.
Increase vitamin C, especially if you bruise easily.

Make sure you consume enough iron to offset blood loss.

Thank you teacake! That's very helpful! I read something about the vitamin C possibly having a factor, but it was a little jumbled in context, so I was hoping someone might mention it here to clear that up a bit. I definitely have MAJOR bruising issues, so I will make it a point to increase vitamin C. Do cinnamon pills/supplements work as well as the tea?

They make you eat less, giving you anorexia (loss of appetite) which is why anorexics periods stop eventually

Yes it may affect your menstruation, because the medication which you are taking for Vyvanse must have resulted in hormonal imbalance and that must be affecting some how your menstrual cycle. For this you can definitely try certain remedies to control it and for your heavy bleeding you can make use of menstrual cups to provide comfort.
