My pdoc took me off provigil and put me on a really low dose of Dexidrine. I take it, but I don't feel anything. No side effects, no real increased energy. I have noticed I am not falling asleep at my desk. I was reprimanded at work for sleeping at my desk--I slept through a few meetings. I have also had a slight elevation in my mood. So, I guess it is working. I am a little scared to take it because of its addictive nature. Anyway, I was wondering if there are others out there who are on Dexidrine or Adderal or something like it for treatment resistant depression. How long have you been on it? Any major problems? How long can I safely take it?

I read that Dexidrine, like most stimulants, can give you rebound depression when it leaves your system -- kind of like the depression some of us get the morning after an evening of drinking. I haven't heard of it being used to treat depression... but I'm not a doctor or a pharmacist... I'm a designer and a writer... so take whatever I say with many grains of salt. Dexidrine? Adderal? or ? for depression. Maybe he thinks you have narcolepsy? It's sometimes used as a treatment for that.

I take Ritalin, and it does help. Some people suggest taking periodic medication breaks with it, but I've also heard others saying it's not necessary. I guess it depends on the individual. I've taken some sort of stimulant for about a year and a bit, and it's made a big difference for me. Mostly, I don't feel anything I can say is a stimulant feeling, but I can tell when I'm not taking it. That tells me that it's working for me.

I hope that helps. Good luck with it.
