Hi all just wondering if any of you have had any experience with the following: I have been on 40mg Prozac for approx 4 years. After 2 years I went down to 20mg and over the last year I have been slowly weaning off by going one tablet every 2nd day, then 1 every 3rd day then off. It has now been 6-7weeks since my last prozac and I am experiencing mild anxiety. Last week was fine but the week before was a bit anxious (but nothing I couldn't cope with) and now this morning I have woken up feeling a bit anxious again and feeling sick and with diarehea (sp?). Now it could just be that I'm ill but I hate that it's so hard to know. I can get through it fine but just wondered if anyone else had experienced this and if it could just be a bit of withdrawel rather than the anxiety coming back? I must say that although I get through it is not pleasant :-( Thanks for looking

Hi! I was on prozac 20mg for about four years and once I decided to come off it, I did not taper down, but just went to every other day and since prozac has a very long half-life (the time it takes for half the drug to clear your system), I barely noticed any withdrawal, physical especially. I had some mild anxiety but was also on xanax which helped with that. From what I have heard and read, prozac is one of the easiest A/D's to stop; of course everyone is different. If the anxiety does not improve maybe you should check with your doctor. Hope you feel better soon.

I feel heaps better this afternoon thanks. One of the reason why I was questioning was that it is supposed to be the easiest to come off. I have come off once before and wish I had taken notes. My couseller says I probably can't remember because we tend to block out those things that aren't pleasant but one of the things I remember is walking along one day having a conversation with myself about whether I needed to be back on it or not and then another time when I went to the pharmacy and enquired about St John's Wart. This was withing probably a 3-6 month period after coming off it and then I was fine for 4 years so I do think it could just be me not liking coming off it. I do have to do it very slowly.

i too suffered with diarrhea (sp) but that stopped also been suffering with bad nigraines and flashing lights, but that could be new meds citalapram/cipralex. just doubled dose. been feeling anxious anyway on and off. not sure whether this is coming off 20mg prozac or new meds making me anxious. diazapam doesn't seem to be working for anxiety.

Jennyann I have tried Diazapam and Xanax for my anxiety when I first had my breakdown but the best I found was Clanazapam (which I think is Klonapin (sp?) in America - I am down in New Zealand!) It was very very good for me, the diazapam just didn't last long enough. Perhaps think about trying that. I am heaps better today anxiety wise, just still have the diaharea.

Starlight...Welcome to PC...
I've pm'd you about my withdrawal from Paxil, previously Prozac. I should add here that i too have taken Xanax for anxiety, but found it addictive...I actually LOVED it, but became too dependent on it, and chose to go off it, experiencing some rather severe withdrawal for a couple of weeks! I'm doing well right now decreasing my Paxil (have taken Prozac for many years in the past, unable to decrease.).
