Anyone have any info on this drug?
I just started taking it - 5mg. now with probable increase in a week or so. I was freaking out at work and had to leave to go see my doc (the pill pusher........unfortunately). Haven't had any problems with it yet, but any input would be appreciated. Thanks everyone. <font color=blue>To see the wonders of our world, look at it through the eyes of a child</font color=blue> |

I'm not a doc or nurse or pharmacist, nor do I play one on TV...but I know people on this med. Seems to be effective and people have reacted well to it. The only notable side effect is increased appetite for some people. This has usually been controlled by adding something that reduces appetite such as Topamax. But, you may not need that so, wait and see.

<font color=purple>Planning to Exist,
Here are some websites on this medication. I personally have not tried it, I know other people who have (at least I think I do) check out these websites, maybe they will help ease the mind. It's always scary to start a new med, I was always worried about it.</font color=purple> http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/hpfb-dgpsa/tpd-dpt/zyprexa_hpc_e.html http://www.zyprexa-information.com/ <font color=red>~Sundance~</font color=red> <font color=blue>"Never react emotionally to criticism. Hi Mary Alice,
I've been taking Zyprexa for over four years until recently when my Psych switched me to Abilify. The Zy worked great. It was the med that turned the corner for me. It helped get my ruminating thoughts under control, and I was having trouble with some very intense suicidal thoughts before starting it. The drawback to it for most people, me included, is weight gain. I went from about 212 lbs up to 254 in the first six months. Then it evened out. With the help of Tina to get me on a good diet and exercise program, and my Psych starting me on Topamax for mood swings (the Top also carries the added benefit of helping you lose weight), I started slowly but surely to lose weight. I'm now back down to 190 lbs. I think if you're aware of the weight gain problem to begin with, and you start to diet and exercise right away, you can avoid a great deal of the weight gain. No promise there, but it seems logical to me. Especially avoid the carbs when you eat, they are your biggest enemy. But like I said earlier, the Zy is an excellent med, at least it was for me. I hope you have the same benefit from it. Please let me know if you have any questions, I'll be glad to help. I was on the same dose you're on BTW. Is it helping you sleep any better? hi Greg........
I'm still having trouble getting to calm down enough to go to bed at a reasonable hour. Last night was actually 3:30 this morning. So far no urges to pig out - thank goodness. I will be on the lookout for that. I did stop taking the Lexapro I was on - so far no ill effects and no problems. I didn't think it was really working anyway. Thanks for your help. xoxoxoxoxoxox <font color=blue>To see the wonders of our world, look at it through the eyes of a child</font color=blue> |

hi Emmy,
I'm trying not to get onto alot of meds - makes me fall asleep driving if I do. I am not currently seeing my T - he stopped our sessions until Sept. because I missed two appts. within 6 months. My last one I simply didn't have the $$ for gasoline and told him so - didn't matter. I got cut off without any support. It has been very hard on me. <font color=blue>To see the wonders of our world, look at it through the eyes of a child</font color=blue> |

I STARTED ZYPREXA IN 1998 AND GAINED ABOUT 65 POUNDS. IT DID NOT TAKE LONG FOR ME TO TO BECOME A DIABETIC. I AM NOW ON ABILIFY AND IT'S A GREAT MED. I HAVE LOST A GOOD AMOUNT OF WEIGHT BUT SADLY, THE DIABETES HAS STAYED. I AM NOT A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL. IAM JUST TELLING YOU MY OWN EXPERIENCE.

My friend takes zyprexa or at least she is supposed to. i don't know if shes still taking them or not but anyway. before she started zy she stayed up all night and all day after the first couple of times she took zy she still stayed up till about 3 and then woke up at 11. needless to say she still was missing her classes. but then she got used to the dosage and all that and she would be in bed at 11 and wake up around 7 and couldn't go back to sleep. thats her story thought i would share with you

It seems there is a class action suit in the works on this drug, but for those who have had other maladies arise because of it...
I just saw a commercial that listed several severe results from taking this (but who is to say ppl didn't have the propensity to get those diseases anyway, even without the drug?) I am NOT suggesting you hire this lawyer, these are just the ppl on the commercial who are involved in the litigation. Perhaps there is info on their website that would help you decide if you need to contact your own lawyer, and if there is benefit for you to join the suit. (Personally, any lawsuit benefits the lawyer, and causes the client more stress than they want.) www.yourlawyer.com Let me know, again, if I'm wrong. <font color=blue> meditation is a true way to connect to the Source </font color=blue>

I've had really good experiences with Zyprexa. My pdoc was trying to transition me on it full-time and get rid of the Risperdal I've been on for 5 years or so, but -- well -- let's just say it failed miserably. :-) I do take the Zy on an as-needed basis still, though, and I love it. For a while, it made me really spacey, but that ended quickly and now it just mellows me out nicely within not too long of a time span (10-15 minutes).
If you look hard enough, you can find some lawyer trying to sue some drug company for anything. Risperdal supposedly causes diabetes now. Zy is supposed to cause pancreatitis. I agree with whoever said that the people who developed these probably had a propensity toward them in the first place. Zyprexa made me swell in the legs and feet so badly that I had to take water pills and still am - even though I've been off of it for quite awhile now.
