Hello. I am currently on 10 mg of Lexapro. Going higher makes me have these shaking episodes. Like not a panic attack, but my entire body is shaking for an hour or so. I feel terrible after it. 5 mg was too little so. But I have three diagnoses: social anxiety disorder (generalized), GAD, and OCD. The only that Lexapro has helped with was the generalized part of social anxiety. It may have even caused my panic attacks to get worse, I am not sure. My OCD may have also been exacerbated by it. I am in a contamination state and I need to wash my hands often if I touch too many things. I feel dirty. Like, if I touch nothing, I'm okay, but if I touch like 5 different smooth surfaces, I feel the need to wash my hands. But anyways, I have read that Paxil is good for OCD, and is used to treat social anxiety and GAD. But when I brought it up with my pdoc, she said no to it. So what is really bad about Paxil? This would really help. Thanks for the response What's bad about Paxil?.

I was on Paxil for a while quite a few years ago now. There was nothing bad about it. It just didn't do anything for me.

Paxil helped me with panic disorder and a bit with generalized anxiety for about a year. Not sure why your doctor won't try you on it--did you ask why? The only reason I stopped it is because I was hit with a major depressive episode, so my p-doc switched me to something else to help that.

I asked her about Paxil and she said no. She didn't explain to me why. I also wanted to go on something PRN, but she said no to that also.

Thanks for the response What's bad about Paxil?.

I took Paxil for two years some years ago. No outstandingly bad side effects, it was a good med, it just kind of stopped working after the 2 years. So I switched to a different ssri.
Thanks for this!

I have no idea why she'd say no to Paxil. I think you should ask her directly. I was on it almost 2 decades ago and my only issue with it was that it caused extreme drowsiness. I was only awake for the ~8 hours of school every day. After about 2 weeks, my parents realized something was wrong and my meds were switched.

I took aropax (same thing) over 10 years ago. I will absolutely not go back on it. The side effects were pretty brutal and left me feeling constantly unwell. It made me shake, made me constantly feel like vomiting, Ioss of apatite, and left me sui.

There are better meds now with fewer side effects.
Thanks for this!

If you're sexually active, you won't be for long once starting paxil. It completely stopped my sex drive, and its a known side effect. Otherwise it was a great drug for my anxiety.

I am not sexually active at all, so that's fine. I don't care about that at all.

I can't have extreme drowsiness. That is the worse thing I have ever experienced and that's why I quit Zoloft. I will ask her the next time I see her. Thanks.

My pdoc also said no to paxil, even though I used to take it and I know it helps reduce panic attacks for me.
Instead of having Paxil, I now have a xanax addiction.

I'm looking for a new pdoc. Grrrrrr....

I love Paxil. It is the only thing that has helped my social anxiety.
At first for six weeks it did make me drowsy, but most of that wears off.
It suits me.
And, I did not gain weight though I do try to eat healthily.
Thanks for this!

It wasn't prescribed to youths in our country for a long while because of some side effect, but I can't find anything about it on the internet anymore.

I love paxil, I've been on it for years. Whenever I move and have to get a new Pdoc they try to take me off it? Anyway, the only bad affect I had was withdrawal a couple times.......BRUTAL!

Paxil made me hungry all the time, gain weight, and after a while I still had debilitating episodes of depression. Terrible drug. (This is coming from someone who was on it for the better part of 13 years.)

I feel like the oddball, I've never had weight gain issues with Paxil. In fact I have to force myself to eat some days. When I first started Seroquel, I got the famous Seroquel munchies- but only for a minute. Now I'm asleep before I can feel hunger or anything else. I ate half a piece of garlic toast and 3 mini donuts yesterday and am trying to force myself to eat now.

Don't know your age but Paxil can really cause strange and destructive behavior in young people. It's been banned in several countries for use in people under 18 and use with care in young adults.

Also some people with OCD have their issues spiraling out of control on Paxil.

And yes, what has been mentioned, it can be a hell med coming off.

That said, if you don't think this med works, there are others.
Thanks for this!

I had a thread here about issues I have with it, but they seem to be getting better with time. Also, I can confirm the sex drive thing - I'm not even that sexual, but I never realized the effect until I realized I'm now almost totally incapable of any kind of significant stimulation there. It's not a huge deal for me, but it's kinda surprising.

It's also been known to cause vivid dreams, I've heard (though I've only experienced it once).

Paxil pooped out on me after 2 years. It didn't cause weight gain nor drowsiness. YMMV. I think it made me feel manufactured. and as I mentioned in another post, SA is 80% gone while on this drug but what's the use of that if it causes no interest in socializing? Maybe this would go unnoticed for some i didn't know about it until someone have mentioned it.

oh and the WD is BRUTAL. I turned into an angry *****. I shouted at my own doc as he's the one who prescribed me this drug.

I recommenced you take Luvox which is known to treat OCD.
