Does anyone else have the hangover feeling in the morning? I'm not sure why maybe it's the valium I'm prescribed... Just tried calling the doc but he wasn't there. Anyone have any suggestions I wake up in the morning and feel sick to my stomach like I want to throw up and have an intense headache. Once I get up and get going drink some cold cola, take my meds, and get something to eat that is kinda neutral I start to feel better and I might go back to bed for a little while to help sleep it off almost. Any info or suggestions, tips that help u would be greatly appreciated. I do take a lot of meds both psychiatric and not.
I take:
effexor: depression I think
lithobid: mood stability mainly
seroquel: sleep and antipsychotic affects
valium: severe agitation, wanting to destroy everything in my path including my pets who I love dearly
trilafon: antipsychotic; hallucinations and what not
artane: agitation and tremors
levothyroxin; for thyroid
lisinopril: bp/heart
atenelol: bp/heart
ortho novum: birth control
Pepcid: for my stomach

The thing is I'd really hate to have to get rid of the med because it's really working great for me. With my mood, agitation, sleeping patterns, most of my breakthrough symptoms I guess basically. But, haven't had these hangover type things till recently and I started the valium like 10 days ago. So I dunno. Thanks, Danielle

I take a combo of meds and I wake up feeling sick--like I want to vomit. I have noticed it helps if I eat a little something before I go to bed--not too much, just some toast or something. Then, I am like you I get up, drink a coke and take my meds and it fades away.

I am not a doctor...but sometimes I wonder if my body is going through a little withdrawal from the meds because after they kick in I feel okay. I don't know--that is just a thought.

Thanks! Atleast I know I'm not totally alone. My doc wrote out the prescription for valium for twice a day but it doesnt say as needed so I've been taking it twice a day. My dad said only take it when u need it but I'm scared to stop taking a dose because I can't end up in the place I was before really wanting to be destructive in general and self injure. I guess I'm wondering anyone think I should try skipping a dose or just keep taking it as usual?

This is only my opinion and I have NO medical background.

I did have a lot of problems with side effects and drug interactions. I think more often this happens as the number of meds increases.

I had a pdoc at psych hospital look at my laundry list of medication and tell me I needed a new pdoc. My drug list was at least as long as yours.

I wasn't changing pdoc that was nonsense. But I did realized I might be need medication adjustments

Pdoc was treating each symptom as reported. But at some point the symptoms were the result of the treatment not the result of the illness.

If you want to check things out for yourself use a site like drugs or rxlist.com ( I don't think those are the names). Write down what each is usually prescribed for (not necessarily why it was prescribed for you) and possible side effects. It may alert you to possible conflicts.

Or take a list (med/strength/dosage) including all meds both psych and medical with you to pdoc appt. Have pdoc go over each one with you. He might be alerted to a conflict.

If there is anything I can do to help let me know.

I felt that way (the hangover) very much when I was on Trileptal. I also get it when I take Klonopin before bed. I don't know what time you get up, but I have to be up at 6:30 every morning....and I've been known to take my meds at like midnight... so I try to make the effort to remember to take them earlier so they have more time to work in my system and I don't wake up feeling so groggry.

you can also take the list of meds to your pharmacist and she or he can check and make sure that there are no interactions between them. i did that last april, even though my medication list was not as long as yours, except for the meds that i took as needed that were over the conter meds. they can check your prescriptions and over-the-counter meds to make sure there's no conflict. if you haven't known (just in case you didn't know), always include the over the counter meds, vitamins, and herbal supplements in you medication list for your doc or pharmacists. even non-prescription meds and/or supplements can interact with prescriptions. hope you feel better soon.

I'm an RN with bipolar, adult ADD, PTSD, PAD, schzio effective disorder, the most important thing we can do for ourselves is educated ourselves on our illness and medications, ask questions, don't just take a pill because a doc says so, ask why and what side effects or reactions it will have with other meds. personally i think klonopin is a much better medication than valium, it is longer acting and maintains an even level in your blood system than valium and other anti-anxiety agents.
I take adderral 20mg 3x/day - adult ADD
topomax 400mg 2x/day - mood stabilizer/racing thoughts
klonopin 2mg 2x/day - anxiety/panic attacks (2nd dose I take @ nite)
geodon 80mg 2x/day antipsychotic (controls anger sometimes I take both doses @ night because u have to take it with food for it to work and I only eat after i take my night meds)
remeron 45mg @ night - antidepressant also used for sleep

this combination finally works for me for the first time in 8 years.

Thankyou for the advice.... I def should try and think things thru before downing stuff. I've tried most of the meds ur on and for one reason or another they didn't work for me. Topamax and adderall I've never tried. I'd like to try topamax because like I've said before I have like ballooned out since I was ever started on psych meds. I don't have add so no adderall. klonopin didn't effect me at all. Remeron made me manic. The antipsychotic didn't work. Most of the newer antipsychotics are not affective for me; they just don't work and some make things worse; I guess the paradoxical effect or something.

I know for me when I was only taking seroquel (no other med), I was getting hangover effects all the time. When you mix so many meds that all can have that effect, it isn't possible to say that any one of the meds is causing it. Combinstions can be bad & when a pdoc starts prescribing for one thing & another & just keeps adding without taking away, that is when you start getting into trouble.

Your pdoc needs to review your prescriptions & start over it sounds like to me.

paradoxical effect can occur. i was on antipsychotics 14 years ago to treat my ptsd. they only caused a long list of problems, serious problems, too. i was psychotic to begin with, and antipsychotic made me slightly psychotic. only when i got off of them did i realize that it wasn't me, but the medications. sure can get confusing.
