Hi

I need some drastic advice, I’m a 22 year old male and I think I’ve got anxiety, it all began about 3 years ago when I took some of my friends “tranxene” tablets and it made me feel better in a way, more relaxed and less worried about normal things that a normal person shouldn’t worry about – I think if one must explain anxiety and feeling anxious this is the best way?

About a year ago I went onto Alprozolam (Alzam) 1.0 Mg that was prescribed by a psychologist for one month. She did some tests and said I suffer from anxiety and depression… I couldn’t get more prescriptions so I got alprazolam on the “black market” and over the internet (rx systems) etc. I used Azor/Tafil/Alzam/Merck/Xanor etc.

I’m currently on 2Mg alprazolam (Azor) per day and it’s worrying me because I know the warnings on all Benzodiazepines and all anxiety drugs, I’ve been on Alprozolam for about one year now and I would say that I’m addicted. I seeked medical help and they told me that no other replacement drugs are available to help you get of Alprozolam and it’s only a short term drug and shouldn’t be used for more than 3 months? Some people say that I must slowly lower my dosage and I’ve also tried that but with no luck.

I don’t want to be 30 and take 6Mg per day because my body is building up a tolerance against this drug and I also don’t want to quit this drug because it really helps me a lot!!!

Any advice on my situation would be appreciated!

Thanks

My advice would be to try now while it is still early to see a Pdoc and slowly have the benzo medication reduded and try to find a replacement(s) for the treatment of anxiety. Have you tried Buspar? I think it is not addictive.

I have absolutly no room to talk when it comes to this as when I was 21 years old I began taking diazapham (Valium) 5mg three times a day and it really helped.....Now 11 years later at the age of 32. I am taking 10mg of Valium four times a day.....I can admit I am totally phychologicaly and physically dependant on this drug and that my biggest fear is that of a Pdoc taking me off of it.....The medication itself has really got a hold of me now. I do not abuse it...though, after 11 years of taking it, I am more than likely taking a maitnance dose.

If there were a Methadone for benzo's I would be the perfect canidate for it.

Good Luck- peace

Well, first welcome to the site! No one here can give real medical advice but we are full of all the other kinds of advice.

You seem to have your problem pretty well assessed, however your anxiety is certainly contributing to the idea that only another drug just like this one will help you.

I don't know where you are (and would be interested) but usually psychologists in USA cannot prescribe medication... to prevent patients from falling into problems like you're in.

Ok so, you need to see a medical doctor. Your anxiety will try to tell you all sorts of horrible things that will happen if you do this, but truly a good MD will be able to help you out straight away.

There are many wonderful medications in this world today that help with everything you are experiencing. You have to ask for help, though, and quit trying to self medicate, it doesn't work. (THAT IS one on the reasons we have MDs eh?)

You must stop taking meds on your own. Make an appointment for an MD or a psychiatrist and tell them you need something for your anxiety.

You should certainly mention how you began taking this medication (like, it's not your fault, ok?) and you think you're addicted and afraid it isn't working good enough or whatever.

Don't put this off... it can be easier to feel better than you know!

Let us know, ok?
