Does anyone take Ativan?
Every time I take it, my skin turns this really weird yellowish color...I've talked to the doctor about it, and she said that shouldn't happen, because it isn't processed by the liver...I'm confused...Just wondering if any of you experienced the same thing...? |

I took Ativan for short period of time because I was taking Serzone and you can't take Serzone and Xanax-- so the Dr. switched me to Ativan. I cannot say that I experienced what you are describing. Between Ativan, Xanax, and Klonopin I have not experienced any side effects. I am concerned that you told your doctor about this, she said it shouldn't happen, yet you are still taking it? Did she tell you to stop taking it? There are plenty of other Benzodiazepines that can help to reduce your anxiety.

"Yellow skin and eyes, while rare, indicate a severe allergic reaction and liver damage. Treatment should be discontinued immediately."
From: http://www.toddlertime.com/med/ativan.htm I would discontinue that doctor while you're at it? I had a doctor do that to me when I was on antibiotics and had aches he attributed to getting older and it was actually my achilles tendon getting ready to bust (it didn't thank goodness I was at the end of the treatment).

I read about that too...But my doctor said Ativan would *never* cause that kind of reaction...I also got my liver and kidneys checked, and everything is fine. ???

It's several places: http://psyweb.com/Drughtm/DrughtmAdv/jsp/AdvAtivan.jsp
I'd talk to another doctor? Look what's happening with Pinksoil and her lithium/doctor problems.

Can you check with your pharmacist? They can sometimes be more knowledgable about drug reactions than docs. In the meantime, I hope you will stop taking it. Are you sure the yellow color is related to the Ativan? Could it be due to another health issue you are experiencing simultaneously? Maybe you should see a good internal medicine doctor?

Is your doctor offering some other explanation for your yellow skin?
Could it be possible your doctor really meant that it would be very rare for that kind of reaction to occur, even though he actually used the word 'never'? Pancreatits can cause yellowing also. I hope your doctor will attempt to discover why this happened with you if he thinks it was not the Ativan. I think you probably would like to know too! |

Thanks. I'll look into it more and maybe take some tests.

Perhaps it isn't the Ativan causing your problem. Maybe another medication or medical issue? Just a thought..

I would definately have the doctor find the source of the problem. I use ativan daily and have not experience that problem either. I hope that it's nothing serious!
