I just got out of pdoc's office. I have been having such a horrible time with all the differnt meds i've tried and nothing working. He asked me a crap load of questions then said he is prescribing Seroquel for me.

So, i have to start off tonite with 25mg of Seroquel and the 100mg of nortriptyline. As the days and nights go on, he said to gradually increase the Seroquel to where i'm taking 100mg at night and 50 mg during the day. I'm glad he wrote that down for me.

He gave me a diagnosis of bipolar now. Not sure if 1 or 2. He said i am rapid cycling and mentioned mania. My mind was going crazy when i was there, so i probably just missed half of what he said.

Who has taken Seroquel? And did it help you? Did you have any side effects?

He told me this med will make me want to snack constantly. He said to get some fruit and vegetables to snack on. So, i did. I stopped and got some. Going to take first 25mg tonite. It's suppose to help me sleep to. I really hope so.

I took it for anxiety and to help me sleep (I was very sensitive to it and went to sleep with 25mg. Some ppl can take over 800mg/day with no problems!). I did take about 225mg/day a couple of years ago. The weight gain was the worst side affect for me tho so I stopped taking it. Hope it is ok for you. Good luck.

(((((chal))))) I haven't seen you in an age and I hope these meds will work for you! Ironically I came in looking for answers myself. Dr Rx me Seroquel today 50mg today, 100 mg tomorrow, 200 the next day, and 300 the following day. I guess that 300 is the goal.

Dr gave me samples in the office with instructions that I am to return in a week. No one bothered to mention that it'll make you sleepy. I don't know if it was the meds, or the fact that I had not slept the night before, or a combination of the two, but I was sleeping within an hour of taking the first 50mg dose. HOW WONDERFUL!

So we'll learn together! I'm concerned about the weight gain, I put on a lot of weight on steroids a couple of years ago and it never came back off. Good Luck to us both!

I started taking seroquel at night to help me sleep, the racing thought just would not go away (anxiety & bipolar 1) started out with 25mg went up to 50mg and that worked pretty well for a while the I had a severe acute manic episode and dr jumped me to 800 with in a matter of days. I really helped but I was extremely tired. I have been brought down to 600mg/day and I am still ok BUT I have gained 35 pounds or so in the last few months so we are slowly weaning me back off and raising my other meds. I really did like the seroquel except the weight gain. They also have the seroquel xr that lasts all day and that one wasn't with the being tired part. Good luck.-Jen

I am 200 mg Seroquel, have not gained any weight but I can tell you that it is the only thing that has let me sleep through the night in probably a decade. It will definitely knock you out, so take it at bedtime if you can!

Sometimes I wake up very groggy, but not too often.

I so hope i dont have the weight gain side effect either. Okay AAA, we do this together.

I'll let ya'll know how it goes with taking this.

I take 400mg...it really helped my bp. I have gained some weight, but oh, well! At least I feel OK with some consistency.

I'm also kind of groggy and hard to get up in the morning. If i didn't use caffeine, I'd never do anything (lol)!

All in all, I'm OK with Seroquel.

Good luck!

fyi - generally the grogginess goes away after awhile. Body has to adapt to the new drug.

I drink caffeinated stuff on a regular basis and it has never bothered me. Caffeine can mess with BP, though, so that's probably why it's on there. As always, every med affects everyone differently and your mileage may vary. Seroquel

Thanks ya'll

I took the 25mg last night. It didnt hit me like a ton of bricks. But, when i did fall asleep, i was out. I know i had some bad nightmares and i couldnt wake myself up from them. For some reason and med that makes me sleep causes my nightmares to be more active. I really hope that goes away, cause if not i wont be taking this med.

I made me and iced coffee a little bit ago with 4 shots of espresso in it. I'm still groggy, but like you said that wears off in time. I know theres no way i can drive at the moment. I'm glad its the weekend and i can get use to it some. I also have a slight headache. Maybe its a sinus headache.

Tonite it goes up to 50mg. And i'm going to take it alot earlier than i did last night.

Good Question Chal, I don't know what I'd do without my Mountain Dew! I am nervous about the weight, not for I could not put on another ounce, I am not physically comfortable with my size now, but maybe if I start feeling better, I'll start doing things. About to take the second dose now, sleeping through the night, I just can't even think about how wonderful that will be!

seroquel always leaves us feeling yuck the next day, we don't take it anymore, unless we haven't slept for days.

the dose was way bigger though, 100mg.

I'm now on 300mg at night. It does work, but I have gained weight and have a bigger appetite. I'm considering stopping it for this reason.

(((((Chal))))) I'm just now getting enough of my wits to reply! I took 100mg last night at 9:00. I did not sleep through the night. I fell asleep around 11:00 and woke up at 12:30 and wanted to eat! Luckily I was too groggy to go and get something to eat. I was able to fall back asleep, which is something I can never do.

This morning when my son woke me up at 6:30 to drive him to work, I was really groggy and my first thought was that I'll have to tell you! When I got back home I went back to sleep around 7 and woke up at 8ish. I thought I'll just lay here and wake up a bit, and fell back asleep. So I guess one tip is if you're getting up, move around!

My husband called from work at 11:00 and woke me up and I really had to get moving!

I know there's adjustment period but I know I'm going to have to hide my cigarettes when I go to sleep. Last night was pretty scarey, when I woke up I reached for one, luckily I did not light it, the next time I woke up the pack was still in my hand.

My eyes are really goopey, are you having this problem?

200mg tonight, we'll see how it goes!

Aw I'm so sorry to hear that Chal, I had that feeling last night. I thought it was because I took the pills at about 7:30 and was sleepy by 8:30 and I fought it. At 9:00 I decided to change my sheets and I was rummy and felt exhausted.

When I finally let myself settle in for sleep it was like I had restless leg syndrome. I had a hard time falling asleep and I frequently woke up. But like I said, that may be because I fought sleep.

On the upside, I woke up this morning and did not feel groggy at all. But my eyes are still goopey when I wake up.

300mg tonight. I hope that you handle it better tonight! I am really pleased that I'm not a zombie this morning.

(((AAA))) you doing good with this med so far.

After the way i felt yesterday, I took the 100mg instead of waiting to slowly up it each night. Right now i'm okay. Sitting down, drinking some iced coffee, no anxious feeling or mood swings going on. Just a constant biting at my lips. I'm pretty much eating them raw. Well, i guess i kinda have a bit of a little nervous feeling going on. Getting ready to do some washing and probably give Bayou a bath.

Let me know how your day goes today. Are you having any mood swings during the day at all?

Yesterday was a roller coaster, didn't even realize that I was angry half the time, but I had a really short fuse. Today was good. One of my twins spent the WHOLE day doing an English assignment that should have been done two days ago and I didn't snap so I think that's a positive sign.

I'm experimenting with the times to take the meds. 7pm was too early and 9 was too late, so I'm going to try for 8 tonight. The restlessness and leg thing was kind of irritating, but I think I brought part of that on myself.

I also did a little experimenting with my mood. I went to youtube and listened to my dad's favorite songs as well as Statler Brother's version of How Great Thou Art. Now when I'm on the edge, that will drive me right over, but I'm fine. Might be a fluke, but so far so good!

I'm a little nervous, I start feeling strange, rummy about an hour after the meds, and hubby is going on a business trip tomorrow and will be gone all week.

Good luck to us both tonight!

Hey ((((((AAA))))))) i'm glad you had a good day today. And not snapping at your twin with the english assignment. I find that a good thing too. I hope you got a nice hug from 'em. Did he finish the assignment?

I don't have the leg thing going on. But, off an on today i was getting this twitch thing in my cheeks. The cheeks on my face. lol.

The mood thing. Yeah, i'm up and down too. I'm glad you found out what music not to listen to in that certain mood. Anxious feeling all day long.

Aww, I'm sorry your hubby is gonna be gone all week. If you need to talk or just stomp ya feet pm me. We can pm back and forth or meet somewhere in chat. Don't worry though, ya'll will both be fine. Think about his return home at the end of the week.

((((AAA))) you have a good night tonite. Ya probably already crashed and snoring in bed. I'll see you tomorrow. Let me know how the time experiment went.

Hey (((((chal)))) How did you do? Last night was pretty good, I only had that restless feeling when I was trying to fall asleep. It was frustrating, but I fell asleep within an hour so there was an hour of crap.

I can't seem to do much physically after I take the meds. I feel very similiar to how I feel on predazone, shortness of breath and exhausted.

I wasn't groggy this morning and my eyes aren't as goopey this morning, but I'm an idiot, just as I was falling asleep last night it dawned on me that I was supposed to take 300mg and I only took 200mg. The fact that it did not shock me back awake and prevent me from sleeping says something good about the medication. So I'll have to remember tonight to up the dosage.

Matthew did eventually finish his English assignment at 10pm. He'd worked on it several hours Friday, all day Saturday, and all day yesterday. I HATE "creative" assignments! So does Matthew, he's a math and science kind of a kid and is very frustrated with artsy type things.

I'm really sorry that you feel anxious all day long, that really sucks. I think you're supposed to notify your doctor about the ticks in your face. I remember reading the printout that the dr gave me with the meds and seeing that as a reason to call him. I thought that it would be a problem for me because I sometimes get them in my eye, but I have not since starting the meds.

(((((chal))))) I so hope this medication works for us.
