I was put on this a couple of days ago to help with my sleep as well as some disassociation I'm having.

Is anyone else on this very old drug? I know understand why the person I saw in the hospital that was on this med acted the way she did. I feel like a zombie after I take it. Is this normal?

I took that med many, many years ago. I remember being very out of it in the beginning, but was able to finish high school and some college while on it.

I did however have a strange side effect where I had a hard time controlling my eye movements. I was given cogenten (sp?) and that side effect went away. How much are you on?

Good luck and take care.

jbug,

Be very careful with this med......it increases the dopomine (sp?) & can cause parkinson's type side effects. I know...it happened to me. I couldn't even get my hands to coordinate to feed myself. I couldn't chew. I couldn't even walk myself to the bathroom or take a shower by myself. My husband would walk me to the bathroom in the morning before he went to work. I would uncomfortable sit on my day bed (because I couldn't even lay down anymore) for the 12+ hours he was at work & as soon as he got home, he would walk me to the bathroom to I could go again. Until they realized at the ER that it was a reaction to the thorazine, I was really scared......then when it didn't go away after stopping the med, I continued to be scared. I went to my neuroligist (I had gone to several years before)....come to find out that I was being given compozine for my nausea tied to my migraines.....same effect as the thorazine.....so it was a double whammie....it took over 1 month for the med effect to get out of my system...& the fear that it was permanent was horrible.

Honestly, there are better meds that can be used & after that horrible side effect, I wouldn't care if it was the last drug on earth....the price was way to high.

I have major depression recurrent & major anxiety issues....not what they usually use thorazine for, but they were grasping at straws to find anything that might work for me because of all the other horrible side effects I had with all the other AD/anti anxiety meds they had tried on me.

I hope you can find something that works for you, but honestly, when the possible side effects are as great as they are with thorazine, I don't think I would let them put those chemicals into my body......meds are scarry for me because of the horrible reactions I have had.....but just beware.

Take care,
Debbie

I took my meds as usual last night around 11 and fell asleep shortly thereafter...good thing I made it to my bed before I fell asleep because I didn't wake up until 2:00 this afternoon. I mean I know I needed sleep but give me a break. I wanted to go work on my inventory I'm supposed to start out at my parents but didn't do that today.

I think my doc is grasping at straws for meds to keep me out of the hospital. I am going to take it a bit earlier tonight and not take my Ambien and see if I wake up when the alarm goes off tomorrow or not. I plan on eating lunch with my family.

The side effects I am experiencing really make me understand why the person was acting the way they were when I was in the hospital with them.

I am hoping this is a short-term solution. I was only given a 2 week supply. I was told we would see how I reacted to it.

With the thorazine I doubt you would need the ambien, but you never know.

I take clozaril for my depression with psychotic features. I know that when I first began taking it, boy did I get a good nights sleep..... like 24 hrs of sleep Thorazine.

After I became used to the dose I still take it at night, most of the time, but I can actually get up in the morning too.

Good luck and I really hope you find something that will help you sleep, I know how important sleep is to me and my mental health.
