Most take 5 or 6 weeks to work - right? Are there any that work faster? My therapist (can't prescribe meds) was saying that Lexapro works faster - is that true? Which is the fastest?

Thanks.

I would say that something like Wellbutrin works faster.. because it's an Selective Dopamine Re-uptake Inhibitor.. which.. generally work, a few days after taking it.

if... its about intense emotional pain / agitation / panic kind of a feeling rather than dull lethargy can't get out of bed...

a little bit of largactil / chlorpromazine can help one through a bit of a rough patch. i mean... if you tend to have 'episodes' that last from a few hours to a few days to (sometimes) a week or so... i used to take a small dose of that up to three times a day. would help me feel a little calmer and chilled out, would help me get a good nights sleep, would help me not get caught in those obsessive ruminating head cycles...

works pretty fast. so you can take it PRN (as needed). and... it isn't as addictive as benzo's have a tendency to be...

a little seroquel could do similarly... some doctors prefer to prescribe that one...

they aren't anti-depressants... but i guess i'm wondering how much it is about lowered autonomic arousal (depression) or heightened autonomic arousal (active distress).

To take away the "trauma of it all" I find Xanor works the best, not the SL version (Xanor SL is better as it is less addictive), the regular kind, but it does wear off after a few hours, but it can help you through the rough bits until the Antidepressant starts to work.

The fastest working AD... not sure, the fastest side-effects are 8 mins compliments of Cymbalta.. but that is a whole funny story for a totally differetnt time.

It really depends on the person. Both Lexapro and Wellbutrin have good results with many patients.

The problem is that there are different types of depressants. Depending on your situation other types of anti-depressants may not work for you or you may be unable to take them.

When I was Hospitalized last May, they sent me home on Remeron.

It works in like a week, taken at night, and helps you sleep.

Although it made me eat like no tomorrow!!! But it worked FAST!!

I read about it on-line and it even says its one of the fastest

working ones made. The Drug company is out of Ireland...cannot

think of the name right now... The Generic name is Mirtazapine

tablets are made that disolve right on or under your tongue.

I'd think it depends on yourself personally and other variables... but I was on my first AD ever (Lexapro) and it started working the week I used it (but the best effects are still after 4-6 weeks)
