I posted here a couple months ago about not being able to get my antidepressant meds because of insurance.

At the time, I was WAY depressed and my neurologist wanted to put me on something. Since the whole mess though and not getting them, I've done work in the program I use to stay sober to help me through being so upset with the fact that I have MS, and have been doing much much better.

So my question is, I'm not sure if I should go on the antidepressants now. The doctor found the one that my insurance will approve (I don't know the name of it).

I still have ups and downs, but they're much more normal now, just the typical ups and downs that everyone has, so I'm just not sure I need the meds. I see him again in May...so maybe I should wait and talk to him about it before I go get the prescription?

Does anyone out there have experience with getting prescribed something but then feeling better? Did you take it anyway? I'm just not sure here....so I wanted ya'lls opinions. Thanks in advance.

Yes, I went through this before and I even took the medicine for a year - maybe a little longer and then I started to feel and do so much better that I stopped it....

I did well on my own for about a full year and then I started to have issue again (on and off) and then after a total of two years had past I went back one the medicine.... and that I am glad I did - I am doing much better now and I am able to leave the comfort of my home more and more every day.

BTW.... if it means I will have to stay on this medicine until the day I die - I WILL!! - for I want to live and be happy in the life I have left.

I don't think it's an either/or decision. Depression and meds are much more complicated than we often hear them made out to be? Throw in other illnesses (your MS) and lifestyle problems and who knows what "exactly" might be causing/contributing to one's depression and how to fix it?

I always try other means to solve my problems before I go the doctor route, especially the meds route. I think my body is much smarter than all the doctors there are and that we (humans) haven't learned enough yet to understand all we need to know to really understand how healing works.

After talking with people here and in the Substance forum, and with my boyfriend last night who's also sober and works in mental health, I've decided to give them a try.

While I'm generally happy most of the time, I do experience sudden bouts of depression that hit hard and take work to dig myself out of. Its usually caused by money, and I know that situation isn't going to get better anytime soon.

My boyfriend pointed out that just last Sunday, I was pretty depressed.

Many have said it won't hurt to try it and I think they're right. My neurologist saw something in me that made him prescribe it, and I forgot that my meds for MS can cause a chemically induced depression. So while I have a way of living which keeps me sober, that way of living can't fix a chemical imbalance in my brain caused by MS and the meds I take for it.

So....I'm gonna try them. I just hope the co-pay isn't over $4......

Hmmmm............. The nurse I spoke with on the phone made it sound like everything was taken care of, but the pharmacy needs the stupid "prior authorization" from the doctor....the doctor who called in the script....to present to the insurance which will probably deny again because he's a neurologist and not a pdoc. So.....I guess I got my answer! No meds!

As long as either doc makes it clear to the insurance company that you need this medication, it should be approved. It's not as if they are asking for this hugely expensive cancer treatment med for crying out loud....just an antidepressant (which i know can be $$ too).

Good luck hon!

We'll see what happens with this one. Maybe it will go through, who knows.

I had an anxiety attack on Friday night. It was HORRIBLE. BF was there and very supportive; he knew all about them, but it was AWEFUL and I don't want another one. Antidepressant?
