I constantly feel tired and put a lot of weight on. Can anyone tell me how to deal with the side effects? Tommorow-I go and see my therapist and Psychiarist-they said last app't they wanted to put me on Seroquel XR-Is this a better drug for those who switched from the regular one to this one? Please, help! I feel my life is passing by and I am always tired and sleep and I am wasting my life away. I wish my depression would go away-I wish I could stop all my meds for manic depression because there are to many side effects. I like being manic then depressed. Life sucks and I hate how this illness controlls my life.

i feel for you .. i dont know how anyone functions on that drug - when i was on it - it would hit me like a ton of bricks and make my head spin till i fell asleep - took it at night only ... after a year i got off of it .. could not take it anymore. I hope you get on something better and feel better too! good wishes!

For me it is the weight gain. I only take it when I really need it. I'll ask about the XR version next visit.

Don't know about XR. Never heard of it.

But I can totally relate to the tiredness and weight gain from Bipolar Meds. Between Lithium and Seroquel (and the 5 others) I am always tired and put on 70 pounds.

Totally sucks Seroquel The worst drug to be on "Warning"

AHH .There the trick. How to stay manic but limit how high and not to get depression .First off learn about you meds. Seroquel a great drug if you know how and why you are taken it . Seroquel works for 24 hours and controls your manic side . So the trick is to take it at night at the same time every night and 8 to 10 hours before you would wake up .So I take it at 8:30 and get up at 7:00 any time later I'm dead tried all day .Do not take it during the day!!! You will just sleep all the time and worst you will never feel manic.

Now you have to find the right dose for you .The amount that clams you down but leaves you a little bit manic . Mines 200 mg. and I have a extra dose as back up in case my manic starts to spin out of control .Seroquel XR will release alttle all day so you will be sleepy all day and wont be able so sleep of the side effect .

As far as weight gain well thats rough but alot of meds. put on weight . Fat and happy or skinny and sad .But like anything you can find a happy middle .

Social, I could not tolerate the seroquel because of the tiredness and weight gain. I also got a mask like face--felt like i could not move my face muscles. Weird feeling. Are they sure this is the right med for you?

Yeah...I sleep a ton on the Seroquel too...but that's one of my biggest problems...I'll go a whole week without an ounce of sleep if I don't take it....but I can sleep up to 16 hours a day on this stuff! I've considered asking for a lower dosage so I don't sleep my life away!

I've been overweight since I was 13 so the weight gain doesn't bring me down as much as it could...

Best of luck to you!

I didn't like seroquel. It helped me to sleep at first, but then I got to the point within 6months of taking 300mg a night and still not sleeping well, just feeling groggy and horrible. Also binged a lot whilst on it. Not nice.

It works for some though. It's a very personal thing.

I just became a member here today. My question was also about Seroquel. Dr. just put me on it last week. I HATE it ! Is this drug for people who just don't ever have to leave their home ? I started on 100 and was suppose to move up to 200, but I couldn't wake up on just the 100. But without it I've gone back to just not sleeping at all. Life does SUCK like this ! I don't want to sleep all the time, but I don't wanna stay awake for days either. WHAT DO YOU DO ????? I started a new job the day after I started the Seroquel, I thought this was gonna be my answer to my sleeping issues. WRONG !
Has anyone found anything that works better ???? Please any suggestions will be appriciated.

Before I took Seroquel I took Zyprexa and that one caused me weight gain, so I switched to Seroquel. I've been taking it now for 4-5 years and have had no major problems. I've lost much of the weight I put on.

But everyone is different.
