Am battling to find a anti-depressant that works, am going through the list with Pdoc (think he is feeling a bit frustrated too), but am feeling like a rather depressed Lab Rat. Needless to say this is making me see AD as the cause for misery and not the solution (negativity never helps). Am currently on Lamictal, which is doing a so/so job. The worst I have been on is Cipralex, Cipramil and Cymbalta, all having horrible side effects. Wellbutrin makes me extremely emotional. Luvox just puts me in limbo, can't sleep but never really awake either.

Has anybody had this problem, what meds finally worked for you.

I have been on Wellbutrin about a month and it is helping me. Every person is different--has different biochemistry and genetics and life circumstances. ADs will not provide a solution for everyone. Stick with your pdoc and keep trying. Trial and error, unfortunately, is sometimes the best approach. Psychotherapy can also help. Good luck!

I take both Effexor and Celexa and the combo works for me. Effexor pulled me out a a really bad depression and worked on it's own for years. Then last year I went into another really bad depressive episode so my pdoc added Celexa and it helped. I also take risperidone to augment the anti-D's. I know it's frustrtating but sometimes it really is a case of trial and error.

Hang in there.

I've been on almost every AD known to man kind and am now on Emsam which is a patch. Its an MAOI but if you keep it below 20 mg you don't have to the special diet. I'm on 6mg and it is working pretty good so far. The suicidal ideations are pretty much gone which is a good thing. Before I started on the patches I thought about it everyday and now don't dwell on it so much.

Have you only tried Lamictal and the various ADs alone, or have you tried to augment Lamictal? If you are getting a partial response, you may be able to boost it. I take Lamictal with Abilify, with good results. Some report good success with Wellbutrin plus Lamictal. It is possible Wellblutrin would feel better for you in combination. You really have not even begun to scratch the surface of possibilities, so hang in there!

SSRI and SSNI don't agree with me... and wellbutrin makes me extremely emotional, was on it for a month in various doses, it made me so depressed and angry. I am taking Lamictal, but in a weeny dose (25mg) anything stronger takes away all feeling (happy, sad, excited, nervious etc etc etc).

Some people do well with lithium (or as someone suggested, Lamictal) augmenting the antidepressant.

Have you been on Effexor?

Cipramil was ok for me. I did well during the whole time I was on it. But we all react differently to different meds, so don't give up. Whats working for you.. AD suggestions ??? (the lab rat feeling is rather queer Whats working for you.. AD suggestions ???)

Well, I've been on every SSRI on the planet. I started on Luvox, which flattened my affect completely. I went on paxil, prozac, zoloft, and annafranil and all just gave me really bad side effects. The doctor's seemed to be using me as a guinea pig and I didn't like it at all! And nothing really worked. I decided to give up on meds entirely and started going to an orthomolecular psychiatrist, and that really helped. They don't use meds, they use natural supplements, so it's pretty cool because I no longer have wacky side effects.
